Summer Seeing Summary
Excellent seeing better than 1 arcsec for 2000 hours/
year (h > 32 m); AO-MCAO 0.8 arcsec (r 0 > 12 cm) for
more than 1700 hours/year (more than twice the
possibilities of any other solar site): HAR observations
definite advantage
Free atmosphere seeing limited, elevation corrected,
of 0.5" (h > 32 m), during a minimum of 4 hours around
5pm every clear available day for coronal observations:
the "afternoon" advantage of the summer season at
Dome C
0.5", r 0 = 20 cm @ 0.5 µm ("small" 700 mm telescopes
are almost phased at 1 µm when seeing = 0.3") - IR
(corona) phased at 3 µm.
