STRATEGIES FOR COMMUNICATION
SKILLS DEVELOPMENT
"Communication is the botheration of all
generations. Communication with the
mission avoids commotion results in
promotion. Gaps in communication may lead
to litigation. Animated conversation always
wins standing ovation "
INTRODUCTION
No one in this world embraces success due
to his/her own efforts. Real Achievers are
able to seek the attention of others in a
positive manner because they have the
most powerful tool of influence in their hand
namely, communication.
Many of us spend years in acquiring
computer skills or spend hours to beautify
ourselves but have we ever given a thought
to improve our verbal skills?
If we trace History, it crystal clearly reveals
that the most triumphant people in the world
have had the gift of the gab. A common trait
of wealthy people is a wealth of pals and
how they have imbibed this trait is through
good communication skills.
TIPS FOR HONING ONE'S
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
DON'T FORGET THE LAW i.e.LOOKS,
ACTIONS AND WORDS
LOOKS
Looks can be stunning. Every one would
love to communicate to one who wears a
smile on his/her face. Looks also includes
the way one dresses up.
ACTIONS
The body language, gestures and
mannerisms all matter a lot. Perfect actions
and body language are one of the most
valuable assets of great communicators.
Fidel Castro, the great leader spoke for 5
hours and the audience was dumbfounded
and what made the audience listened to him
with rapt attention? It was not what he spoke
but how he delivered his speech, his
posture, his body language and
EXPRESSIONS have attributed to his
immense fan following across the world.
WORDS
Words are windows, open wide,
That reveals all, inside, outside.
They can cool, they can bake,
The sleepiest mind, they can awake.
They can dance, they can sing,
And our worries they can fling.
They can be harsh and also polite
Like gentle Ladies of the elite.
They can love, they can hate,
If used unwisely, in a haste.
They can cure, they can break,
Like a poor man, at the stake.
Words can be powerful. The right words
could trigger many a brilliant idea, bringing
fresh life into your Organization.
BE AUDIENCE FRIENDLY
Make sure that one has not created a barrier
between oneself and the audience which
inhibits communication.
KISS {KEEP IT SHORT AND SIMPLE}
Quite frequently, one fails to communicate
what one wanted to convey to others
because of different speaking styles and
accents.
BE POLITE AND POLISHED
What one talks fades over time but how one
felt remains for a Long time to come.
BRING THE HUMOROUS THE HUMAN
TOUCH
There are ways of using humor, which
anybody can cultivate. Some of the simpler
ways are to use the old jokes, cartoons,
analogies, observations etc. One has to
have this never-ending urge to put a punch
in the speech.
COMMUNICATION BEHAVIOR
PREFERENCE MAPPING
According to Arindham Chaudhry's
communication behavior preference
mapping is based on the categorization of
individual preferences on two key
dimensions of communication,
Persuasiveness and expressiveness.
People with high persuasiveness and high
expressiveness are the Thespians eg BILL
CLINTON. These people prefer action
oriented communication , liberally using
gestures, expressions and movements
while Communicating People with high
persuasiveness and low expressiveness are
the stern face eg. KARAN THAPAR & T N
SESHAN. They are characterized by a no
nonsense Attitude and in almost all
occasions prefer carrying a stern face while
they communicate.
Poised are people with low persuasiveness
and low expressiveness eg AMITHABH
BACHCHAN. These people are calm and
extremely formal.
People with low persuasiveness and high
expressiveness are the friendly eg
PRONOY ROY. They are usually warm in
their communications.
CONCLUSION
One can never succeed with people without
mutual trust and Understanding. Effective
Communication skills could just be the
difference between success and you. Simply
reading books on communication skills
won't transform you instantly. You do have
to get there and make the effort.
Familiarise yourself with the basics,
practices and then sitback and glory in your
new found confidence and easy fluency.
"Shouldn't we use the words?
Like the pills,
To cure the world of all its ills?
Use them wisely and reap all
The good,
And be liked, loved and understood. "u H
