w here are you going to get the Highlands?
"We have a scene that takes place in an
Indian restaurant and we had trouble finding
an Indian that had a Scottish accent It was
important to go there."
When asked if the mo\ie was difficult to
cast. Rose replies, "Yes and no. It wasn't hard
to cast because everybody wanted the roles,
but it was hard to cast because there wasn't the
money. Agents are a littie reluctant to expose
their clients to these kind of scripts because 10
percent of nothing is nothing, and that's how
they earn their money—as a percentage."
Rose urges fellow p«txiucers to use all resources
available to them to get good scripts
out to high-cahber actors and actresses. "Frances
[Fisher] got this script through my wife at
jweschool. It's very bizarre. That's how scripts
are getting to people like this."
The
highli^t (blcxid, naturally) of "Je
M' Appelle Crawford" is undoubtedh' the
hair show. ""The hairstyles are phenomenal"
says Rose. "They are to this mo\ie w hat the
costumes are to "Priscilla [Queen of the Desert].'
what the space rocket is to "Apollo 13."'Cameos
by hair legends John Paul DeJoria. Jose Eber
and Giuseppe Franco, and models Veronica
Webb and Kyhe Bax, help set the scene.
But w hat of the character Crawfcxd Mac-
Kenzie? '"He's a nice guy. I like him," says
Feiguson. "He shares the "never say die, never
give up' spirit that I've attempted to live by,"
adds Gervasi.
"Je M'Appelle Crawford's" producer Philip Rose (left) and co-writer/executive producer Sacha Gervasi.
Rose predicts that "Je M' Appelle Crawford"
will appeal to all audiences. "It's not
a gay movie even though the subject matter
is hairdressing and the guy happens to
be gay.
"Ifyou conpare it to The Full Monty,' who
went to see that? It wasn't just suppessed
EngUshmen wanting to take their clothes off.
It was everybody."
Says Ferguson, 'It's a clean, good laugh.
And I don't mean clean as in 'you can bring all
the family.' I mean there's a purity about it,
there's a hope. It's a "punch the air in triunq)h'
ccHnedy."
