Nichols tutors attend NEPTA conference

at the Saturday,
March 27 New England
Peer Tutor Association
(NEPTA) Conference at
Bryant University.
Each group complemented
this year’s
theme of “Survivor: Out
Study, Out Smart and
Out Tutor!”
The first group of

Thurston presented:

which was attended by
approximately 20 tutors.
“It was great fun meeting tutors from
other colleges,” says Thurston, an
Accounting and Finance major from
Holden. “When I tutor in my subject areas,
I like to relate the concepts to the interests
of the tutee.”
Caroline Monroe and Ryan Illingworth
gave a presentation entitled: “Outsmarting
Learning Style Difference in the Tutoring
Session.”
Other Nichols attendees included seniors
Matthew James, Ji-Young Kim and
Michelle Kincaid; juniors Constance
Bennett and David Carrigan; and sophomores
William Crory, Kate Dyson and
Jocelyn Tassone.
By students and for students, NEPTA
attracts more than 200 peer tutors from
around New England, with an additional 50
directors and administrators.
“NEPTA rejuvenates the directors as
well,” said Dr. Crystal Bickford, director of
Nichols Academic Resource Center. “We
feed off of the energy, inquisitiveness, and
sheer enthusiasm of the students. Every
year, this conference reminds me as to why
I have chosen a career working with peer
tutors.”

Boylston. She is the former Vice President
and co-owner of Global Business Express
(GBX) mail fulfillment and digital printing
company (formerly of Worcester) where she
oversaw the company's operations for 10
years. Since then, Milestone has been active
in local business.
According to Milestone, “I was attracted to
