Charity stroll attracts<br />

150 pink walkers<br />

THE rain clouds held<br />

briefly as the Otorohanga<br />

‘pink walkers’<br />

set out on their annual<br />

charity stroll on<br />

October 19.<br />

Some 150 people<br />

dressed in every<br />

shade of pink braved<br />

the weather to raise<br />

awareness of breast<br />

cancer.<br />

There were pink<br />

tiny tots, pink grannies,<br />

pink families and<br />

even pets dressed in<br />

the only colour of the<br />

day.<br />

Organiser Joan Daniels<br />

was thrilled with<br />

the turnout and the<br />

generous donations<br />

for the Waikato Breast<br />

Cancer Trust.<br />

The walk raised<br />

$1598 – several hundred<br />

more than last<br />

year.<br />

“We are all <strong>so</strong> grateful<br />

to everyone who<br />

donated prizes and<br />

dressed up to help us<br />

raise awareness of<br />

breast cancer,” says<br />

Mrs Daniels.<br />

Coastal subdivision review<br />

WAITOMO <strong>District</strong> <strong>Council</strong> is reviewing<br />

rural zone subdivision requirements in its<br />

<strong>District</strong> Plan for coastal areas including<br />

Mokau, Te Waitere and Awakino.<br />

A consultation document is available on the<br />

council’s website with copies sent to key<br />

stakeholders.<br />

WDC regulatory services manager John<br />

Moran says: “It’s (the document) not<br />

signalling any change in terms of the<br />

current rules, but rather ge[tting interested<br />

people to talk about what they see as<br />

the issues around subdivision <strong>so</strong> we can<br />

ab<strong>so</strong>rb the information, get the feedback<br />

and then draft a position for council to look<br />

at.<br />

“It’s the first consultation about<br />

subdivisions we’ve had in <strong>so</strong>me years.”<br />

Open days will be held on:<br />

Saturday, November 5, 9am – 12 noon at<br />

Te Waitere Boating Club; and Saturday,<br />

November 12, 9am – 12 noon at Mokau<br />

Hall<br />

<strong>Council</strong> staff and consultants will be<br />

available to discuss subdivision related<br />

issues.<br />

Raising hope<br />

The Lines Company’s Te Kuiti staff<br />

supported the New Zealand Breast Cancer<br />

Foundation’s annual Pink Ribbon Day<br />

appeal last month with a pink themed<br />

morning tea.<br />

Ribbons, pens and nail files were al<strong>so</strong> <strong>so</strong>ld<br />

raising $118.10.<br />
