22 MAY 2012 MEDIA & POLITICS 1. Pray against wickedness in high places; for righteous politicians to be elected to office, and for men of God to be raised who are capable of walking and serving in the corridors of power; 2. Pray against the appointment of politicians who impose policies, programs and budget cuts that will be detrimental to the poor, on the back of rising commodity prices, and a looming global financial crisis; Pray against wasteful spending; 3. Pray for Christians who work within the mainstream media -‐ television, radio, print, film, advertising, marketing and electronic media (such as website development) that they may have a positive influence in their workplace environment and the integrity and truthfulness of work produced; 4. Pray for those with profile and those behind the scenes; Christians producing programming specifically for mainstream media; People of influence within the mass media community -‐ presenters, writers and editors, directors, producers and media managers. 5. Media gatekeepers -‐ those who make decisions which give voice to a Christian perspective or prevent an authentic Christian voice from being heard. Christian media -‐ those who work within Christian television, radio, film, electronic media and print; 6. Pray for a “circle of protection” around journalists and reporters who uncover unrighteous acts of the powerful, and would dare report and speak truth boldly, and not sell out for profit; for God to release righteous men who will write as the oracles of heaven, and that His anointing will be so evident on their work, that the mouths of all adversaries be silenced; 7. Pray for Spirit of Truth to protect God’s people from false reports and deception, and able to discern the true and correct news.
23 A Creative Way to Pray Create a tech space in the room – with TV, radio, laptop, ipod, headphones and so on. Put together a deck of movies e.g. Avatar, Lord Of The Rings, The Matrix, WALL-‐E, Finding Nemo etc , or video clips on prayer, and music CDs or iTunes. Consider making soft toys or place 3-‐D models of the social media of today e.g. Facebook, Google, MTV. Place recent newspapers, magazines there together with scissors and tape – to provide food for thought and interactive prayer activity on issues such as media freedom, media consumption habits, as to why people gravitate towards bad news and celebrity gossip etc. You can create a Facebook page or a Twitter account to send out prayer alerts, or even create a replica of Facebook page or a Twitter wall where you can place prayer items and stick them up for prayer. I will search for the lost and bring back the strays. I will bind up the injured and strengthen the weak, but the sleek and the strong I will destroy. I will shepherd the flock with justice.
