Leave
St Paul’s has a well defined set of rules governing
leave arrangements. These are for the benefit and
protection of students, parents and the School.
1. No student may leave the School grounds
during the School day without appropriate
permission.
2. All leave during the School day (8.30 am -
3.30pm) must be entered in the School “Gate
Book” which is in the School Office.
Boarder Leave
Detailed arrangements and procedures can be
found in the Boarding Handbook.
Punctuality
The following should be observed in relation to
the bells:
• Once the bell goes, students should move
promptly to class, enter the classroom in the
presence of the teacher, and get themselves
ready for the lesson.
• School begins with roll calls at 8.05am. Those
who come late to School must sign in at the
Office where they will be given an ‘Admit to
Class’ slip for their teacher.
Spitting
The practice of spitting is unacceptable and not
permitted.
Truancy
Where a student is identified as being truant,
they will be required to make up the time they
have missed from class, and catch up the work
they have missed.

Skateboards / Rollerblades etc
Driving
1. All students will comply with Ministry of
Transport regulations at all times.
2. Unless accompanied by a parent, students
need a School Driving Permit to drive a
vehicle to School at any time. This should
be obtained by parental request in writing
through Housemasters. School Driving
Permits (see Appendix 2) are issued by the
Deputy Headmaster and must be clearly
displayed in the motor vehicle window at
all times while parked in School grounds.
Normally a Permit is issued to only Year 12
and Year 13 students. Year 11 students can
apply for a Permit only if they live more
than 6km from the School or their activities
require them to return to School in the
evenings on a regular basis. Exceptions to
this need the School’s approval. Where
vehicle parking limits the number of permits
issued, preference will be given to those living
furthest from the School.
3. All vehicles brought to School by students
must be registered with the Deputy
Headmaster. Changes must also be recorded
with him within a week.
4. Permission to carry passengers is also
necessary, and where allowed, parents of
both driver and passenger(s) must give their
approval in writing.
Vehicles brought to School under these rules:
• Must be parked in the Chapel car park unless
a Housemaster specifies otherwise
• May be parked in the Administration car park
only after 5.30 pm
• Are parked in the School grounds at the
owner’s risk
• May not be parked outside the School
grounds
• Must use only the main (Hukanui Road)
School entrance (not St Paul’s Road or Casper
Street)
• May not use the road in front of Williams
House or park near the New Gymnasium.
Student vehicles are not to be used during
School hours without written permission
from home and approval by the student’s
Housemaster. All students leaving the School
grounds (in vehicles or as pedestrians) during
