tax benefit and housing benefit rules have come into force and we will see many people already on
low incomes struggling even further.
Following on from our conference "Reality Bites" in September 2012 we would like to invite you
back to update you on our work and share new ideas. We need to keep talking to make sure our collective
efforts are reaching everyone. External speakers have been invited to give a broad
perspective of the current situation nationally and in London, followed by some useful workshop
sessions.
The agenda for this conference is as follows:
Lambeth Council and Cllr Paul McGlone, Cabinet Member for Finance and Resources
10:30am Sink or Swim? The impact of the Universal Credit, Ryan Shorthouse, Researcher, Social
Market Foundation
10:45am Question and answer session with the speaker panel
11:15am - Workshops:
• Stark choices: Housing allocations and options
• Ultimatum: Delivering Universal Credit successfully or what happens?
• Refresh: A basic guide to benefit changes
• The future: building financial resilience
MADE IN LAMBETH
Lambeth Council is working on an exciting new project which they thought you may be interested in
– Made in Lambeth.
Made in Lambeth is a collective of individuals, many of whom are residents of the borough, that
come together to share their skills to make a difference to their local community. It is based on
the Good for Nothing methodology, where people with skills work collectively over a short period of
time to make and create things that would otherwise take weeks or months to do.
The Made in Lambeth projects are short, sharp and impactful: from designing a new brand website
for a local youth group, to creating a system designed to get people in the same street talking to
one another. The collective comprises of people from a mix of backgrounds: from graphic designers
to brilliant organisers, to those with legal, financial and software development skills.

Community Notices
· Learning new skills and meeting life-changing people: Made in Lambeth is nothing without its
greatest asset; people like you. Thus, we are committed to developing the skills of our members.
From training and software licenses, to offering further networking opportunities and certificates
of participation.
· Having a big impact on the community: We promise the projects you will work on will have a tangible
social impact that you can be proud of.
· Developing a lasting network of likeminded people: As Made in Lambeth is only able to convene a
few times a year, we have set up an online community where you can connect with other Made in
Lambeth members, and continue to work on projects together.
We are looking for people to
1. Come and get involved in the event on the 28 and 29th of April. Each Made in Lambeth event
has a different theme and this event will focus on public spaces and streets, in particular:
· Ideal streets – improving where you live
· Sustainable transport – better ways to get around the borough and London
· Closer communities – getting to know your neighbours better
2. At each event we work on 3 projects. Two of the spots have been taken for the April event but
one is still up for grabs and we would love to know if you have any suggestions for a project we
could work on?
· Commit to take leadership of the project
· Guarantee resources for the implementation of outputs
· Write your brief with focus and clarity
· Ensure your objectives fir with the councils strategic priorities
3. To sign up for the event and start contributing your ideas, or just to be kept up to date with
developments, you can now register with us here: http://madein.lambeth.coop/
