These are sent to students each semester by
the Examinations Office.
There are two examination periods each
year, June and October/November. After
the examinations, results are available on the
nDeva website (www.auckland.ac.nz/nDeva)
Official results are usually forwarded to
students by post before 24 December.
Illness or Misfortune
during Examinations and
Tests
To be eligible to apply for an aegrotat
or compassionate pass a student must:
1. Attempt the examination(s) if at all
possible;
2. Suffer illness or other misfortune which
affects examination preparation or
performance.
3. See a Doctor on the day of the
examination, or, if preparation is impaired,
see a Doctor within the fortnight
before the examination. Note – it is
important to obtain a medical certificate
giving full details of your condition. For
compassionate consideration, please see
the Counsellor at Student Health.
3. Complete the appropriate application
form available from Student Health.
4. Submit the completed form to Student
Health within one week after the
affected examination, or if more than one
examination was affected, then within one
week of the last examination affected.
Eligibility for award of an aegrotat or
compassionate pass:
1. Medical or other evidence – The
medical or other evidence submitted
must be sufficient to make it clear
that the student was either unable to
attend the examination(s) or his/her
performance was affected at the time of
the examination(s). If performance or
attendance on the day of the examination
is affected, a medical examination must be
carried out on the day of the examination.
2. Academic Performance - An aegrotat or
compassionate grade may be approved if
a student’s lecturer is able to certify that
either:
or
(a) work completed by the student during
the course of instruction has been well
above average;
(b) work completed by the student
during the course of instruction has not
been well above average, but after taking
into consideration the year’s work and
the student’s performance in the current
examination, including an examination
in another subject, the student is in the
lecturer’s opinion clearly worthy of a pass.
It should be noted that students with an
average or below average record during
the year cannot be recommended for an
aegrotat or compassionate pass unless the
examination(s) are attempted.
Tests
Tests that contribute to your final grade and
are held under examination conditions are
subject to the same rules for aegrotat and
compassionate consideration as examinations.
You should complete Form AR46, which can
be obtained from the Examinations Office
in the ClockTower Building. This must be
submitted within 7 days of the test.
Missed Examinations
Students who discover that they have missed
an examination through their own mistake
most contact the Examinations Section, The
ClockTower, immediately.
Illness or Misfortune
relating to on-course
assessment
For on-course assessment other than a
test, you should first attempt to obtain
an extension of the due date from the
course convenor. If this extension is not
given, or considered inappropriate by the
course organiser, you may use the Faculty
of Engineering ‘Application for Exemption
from On-course Assessment’ to request
an exemption. This form can be obtained
from Engineering Reception, and must be
submitted within 7 days of the due date of the
assessment affected. It is required that you
must have been prevented from presenting
the assessment or consider your performance
seriously impaired because of illness, injury
or other misfortune due to circumstances
beyond your control, or exceptional
circumstances. You must make application
after the due date and within 7 days of the
assessment affected.
