The University of Auckland aims to improve
the participation, retention and success rates
of women where they are under-represented
in Science and Engineering. To help achieve
this the Faculty of Engineering has an Equity
Adviser: The Women in Engineering Adviser
provides advice and support, both academic
and personal, for all women students in the
Faculty of Engineering. She facilitates support
networks for women students on campus and
provides prospective women students with
advice and encouragement on engineering
courses at The University of Auckland.
Associations/Clubs
Auckland University Engineers
Association Inc. (AUEA)
The AUEA is an incorporated society, which
was established in 1957 and registered in
1968 under the Incorporated Societies Act.
Its Members comprise the graduates, staff and
friends of the Faculty. There is no subscription
fee. An Executive Committee that is elected
annually administers the affairs of the AUEA.
The Association’s principal objectives are to
provide a means for members to maintain
contact with the Faculty and with each other.
In addition it acts to provide services and
support for the Faculty, the AUES, students
and, in the longer term, to assist with the
preservation of the Faculty’s heritage and
tradition. To achieve these objectives the
Association undertakes:
1. Communication of news to members
using the Faculty’s Newsletter which is
issued 3-4 times a year. This Newsletter
includes news of the Faculty and academic
developments.
2. On the initiative of the Faculty, this year
it is planned that the AUEA establish
Chapters of the AUEA in centres outside
Auckland and generally foster active
membership of the Association.
3. The maintenance of an address list of
members is now managed by the Faculty
and all graduates are requested to advise
the Faculty if they change their address.
Part of the role of this address list is to
identify representatives from each class to
act as key contacts for future reunions and
events.
4. The organisation of an AGM.
5. Publication of an annual report and
audited financial statements which are
tabled at the AGM.
6. The Annual Alumni Dinner is run by the
Faculty. Normally in 2006 the special
guests would be those capped in theyear
which ends in 6 i.e. 1956, 1966 etc.
However, 2006 marks the Centennial year
of the Faculty and the Centennial dinner
will be attended by a wider representation
than in the normal year. Finally, the
AUEA’s survival depends on the interest
and support of its Members and if you
are prepared to serve on the Executive
Committee you would be most welcome.
