USING THIS HANDBOOK

All postgraduate students including PhD
students are expected to read the Handbook
and familiarize themselves with its contents.
The Faculty of Engineering is a group of
five departments, all offering postgraduate
programmes in addition to the Bachelor of
Engineering
Section 1 of the Handbook includes
information about academic requirements for
postgraduate students.
Section 2 contains general information
about the University, the Faculty and its
Departments.
Course prescriptions for all postgraduate
courses are included in Section 3.
The staff of the Faculty of Engineering are
listed in Section 4. The Dean is Head of the
School and Chair of the Faculty. The Dean
carries overall responsibility for academic and
administrative matters.
There are a number of Associate Deans
with specific responsibilities; in particular the
Associate Dean for postgraduate students is
Professor Robert Raine. The Faculty Registrar,
Keith Willson, is the senior administrative
officer in the Faculty.
Section 5 contains details about locations
on the city campus and within the Faculty of
Engineering.
This Handbook is intended as a guide for
postgraduate students. The information, it is
hoped, will be useful from before admission
through to the final stages of submission for a
higher degree at The University of Auckland.
It also aims to answer questions often raised
by students throughout the term of their
postgraduate study and includes submission
dates for research Theses and Projects. Read
it and then keep it available for easy
reference. This Handbook is not intended to
be a substitute for the University Calendar.
The Calendar and University website (www.
auckland.ac.nz) should be consulted for
official Statutes and Regulations. Definitive
information regarding fees, allowances and
other matters is available from the Student
Information Centre, The ClockTower, 22
Princes St. Please let the Faculty Registrar
know if you feel that further information
should be included. Details of individual
programmes can be found on the Faculty
of Engineering website (www.engineering.
auckland.ac.nz) and courses can be found on
the University website (www.auckland.ac.nz/
nDeva/Course Catalogue).
