four counties account for a combined total of
49 mgd (89%) of water use for the
Mining/Dewatering category. Table A-9
presents permit-specific water withdrawal data
for Mining/Dewatering use, grouped by
county. Table A-10 reflect average monthly
withdrawals by county and source.
Figure 16 shows that phosphate mining was
the single largest freshwater use in the
Mining/Dewatering category during 2005, an
estimated 33 mgd or 61 percent. Limestone
mining also contributes significantly by
withdrawing an estimated 12 mgd or 22
percent of water use in this category. Sand
mining was estimated at approximately 4 mgd
or 7 percent of water use. Estimated monthly
water use for Mining/Dewatering is depicted
in Figure 17.
