Plan for Action
The many stakeholders who contributed to A Strategic Plan to
Prevent Violence Against Women in Texas created this Plan for
Action in an effort to ensure the timely implementation of steps to
end sexual assault, domestic violence and stalking in Texas. Based
on the best information available, the Violence Against Women
Prevention Advisory Committee (VAWPAC) has defined priority
issue areas, recommendations and strategies that form the Plan for
Action. In addition to the general information on VAW prevention,
the public health model and promising practices presented in the
Background Paper, relevant research that contributes to the plan
precedes the recommendations and strategies for each issue area:
1) Resources, Research, and Data, 2) Communities, Systems, and
Infrastructure, and 3) Public Awareness. In order to be successful,
action partners will strive to incorporate culturally competent,
data-driven information and the perspectives of those who have
survived domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking into
prevention efforts.
To arrive at this initial Plan for Action the VAWPAC developed
numerous specific goals and objectives detailed in Appendix A.
Workgroups then proposed recommendations based on criteria,
such as: importance, do-ability, community-driven, connection to
public health, timing (foundation for further action), filling gaps,
involvement of non-traditional allies/community leaders and
primary prevention (not early intervention). The VAWPAC then
discussed, amended, and came to consensus on this initial plan for
action, intending to ultimately work for the implementation of all
goals and objectives included in Appendix A.
The partners listed under each recommendation are those that
have already committed to some level of involvement in working to
implement related strategies. More actors will be invited to
participate on workgroups and in advisory roles. Estimated
timelines for completion of related objectives can also be found in
Appendix A.
