Appendicies - A Plan Goals/Objectives existing organizational policies on sexual assault, domestic violence and stalking by September 2006 and on a continuing basis. Objective 2: Make available research-based tools, including evaluation methods, for incorporating training on sexual assault, domestic violence and stalking into existing curricula to medical, dental, nursing and other health care training schools via web-based and other mediums by December 2005. Objective 3: Encourage professional organizations and licensing boards to require health care professionals to take continuing education courses addressing the primary prevention of sexual assault, domestic violence and stalking by September 2006 and on a continuing basis. Objective 4: Make available research-based information on best practices, including evaluation tools, for pre-screening and universal screening for sexual assault, domestic violence and stalking to Texas health care providers via web-based and other mediums by September 2005. PRIORITY: PUBLIC AWARENESS Goal 1: Promote awareness that domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking are public health issues. Objective 1: Implement appropriate sexual assault, domestic violence, and stalking screening activities (including evaluation of process) in a proportion of family planning and maternal child health programs of Texas public health settings based on “promising practices” in the field, by January 2006 and on a continuing basis. Objective 2: Make available educational materials with the prevention message that sexual assault, domestic violence and stalking are unacceptable via webbased and other mediums to public health agencies, encouraging those entities to make these resources available to clients by January 2007. Goal 2: Develop and implement strategies for social change resulting in the prevention of sexual assault, domestic violence, and stalking. Objective 1: Use the Popular Education Model for Social Change and involve communities to train health professionals on issues related to sexual assault, domestic violence and stalking as an avenue of social change by January 2005 and on a continuing basis. Appendicies - A Plan Goals/Objectives Objective 2: Facilitate the formation of two organized groups of men 3 to work toward the prevention of sexual assault, domestic violence and stalking and to serve as models for other men by January 2006. Objective 3: Involve community members, including survivors and former perpetrators of violence against women in planning and implementation of efforts to prevent sexual assault, domestic violence and stalking by January 2006 and on a continuing basis. Objective 4: Facilitate collaboration between Batterers Intervention and Prevention Programs, Council on Sex Offender Treatment programs, and former perpetrators of violence against women in Texas to prevent sexual assault, domestic violence and stalking through raising awareness and modeling for other men by January 2007 and on a continuing basis. Objective 5: Make available speakers and other resources to make the connection between substance abuse and sexual assault, domestic violence and stalking to organizational and state conferences on violence against women and/or substance abuse, by January 2008. Objective 6: Implement a statewide public awareness campaign about the connection between child abuse and sexual assault, domestic violence and stalking by December 2005. Objective 7: Make available research-based school-wide bullying prevention models, including evaluation tools to Texas School District personnel by September 2007. Goal 3: Assist consumers in taking responsibility for the way sexual assault, domestic violence and stalking are portrayed in the media. Objective 1: Involve youth and parents in a community-based approach to implement a statewide campaign about the effects of violence in the media and its connection to sexual assault, domestic violence and stalking in Texas by January 2010. 1 Other state level entities that will be invited to participate include: State Licensing Boards for Health Professions, TX Association of Business and Chambers of Commerce, TX Education Association, TX Hospital Association, TX Medical Association, Texas Municipal Police Association, TX Nurses Association, Military entities, Woman’s Chamber of Commerce, TCLEOSE – Continuing Education for Law Enforcement, TX Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation, TX Department of Protective and Regulatory Services 2 Other community efforts to be invited include: Austin Commission for Women, Center for Health Training, Children’s Advocacy Centers of TX, Domestic Violence Initiative, Faith Based Organizations, Greater Dallas Crime Commission, Media entities, Texas Health Resources, Woman’s Advocacy Project. 3 These groups should be formed in at least two of the following Texas cities/regions: Dallas, Ft.
