Appendicies - B Survey Analyses APPENDIX B Background A goal of the project was to learn more about the types of violence against women (VAW) primary prevention services that were being provided in Texas. A survey of stakeholders was conducted as part of this project. The goals of this survey included identifying service providers in this arena, determining where primary prevention efforts were targeted, whether efforts in Texas were being evaluated as well as obtaining some baseline information on primary prevention activities in the state. Differences in responses by type of service provider (health care setting versus other) were also examined. The survey was designed by staff working with the VAW prevention project and administered between June and August 2003 to organizations or clinics thought to offer VAW prevention services. 1 In this report, the terms “stakeholders” or “respondents” are used interchangeably to refer to those organizations or clinics that responded to the survey. A snowball sampling frame was used to identify a sample of targeted organizations or clinics. In this type of convenience sampling, a small group of organization or clinic representatives working with the VAW prevention project were asked to identify additional stakeholders to be included in the sample. One key drawback of the snowball sampling technique is that generalizations should be made with caution because the sample was not selected randomly.
