full branching when young, then develops a
dense upright crown when mature.
Occasionally reported to produce seeds.
Gleditsia triacanthos ‘Impcole’
Imperial ® Honeylocust
Height: 35'
Spread: 35'
Shape: Rounded
Foliage: Fine
textured, medium
green
Fall Color: Yellow
Imperial ® is small and rounded, the most compact
and formal of the popular Honeylocust cultivars.
Wide branch angles resist storm damage and
create a horizontal spreading branch pattern.
Northern Acclaim ® Honeylocust
Thornless and
Seedless Honeylocust
All cultivars we offer have been selected
as outstanding plants for a variety of characteristics.
All are considered essentially
thornless and seedless. However, there
are reports from around the country of
occasional production of fruit and/or thorns
by several cultivars. Unusual weather
conditions seem to be the key factor in
this. When thorns or seeds are produced
in one season, the tree generally reverts
back to its normal growth habit the
following year.
Gleditsia triacanthos ‘Moraine’
Moraine Honeylocust
Zone: 4
Height: 45'
Shape: Widely vase
shaped with rounded
top
Foliage: Fine
textured, medium
green
Fall Color: Golden
Moraine was the first thornless Honeylocust
to be patented and it is still one of the best.
It grows quickly to produce a spreading vase
shaped branch structure but maintains a
rounded outline.
Gleditsia triacanthos ‘Harve’
Northern Acclaim ® Honeylocust
Zone: 3b
Height: 45'
Spread: 35'
Selected by Dale Herman at North Dakota State
University for its cold hardiness in the rugged
environment of the Great Plains. Northern
Acclaim develops a more upright shape than
most, similar to Skyline ® .
Stiffly upright growing and narrow in form, this
male clone is seedless.
