Norman Brown has spent his life around horses and carriages having been introduced to the
delights of owning carriages by his grandfather, James Brown. James Brown left the family farm
and travelled to Belfast with one horse and cart and eventually started his own business moving
furniture and coal. He then moved into the funeral trade and this was continued by Norman
Norman’s first pony was a Shetland at the age of 6 but then when he passed is qualifying exams,
his father purchased a Connemara pony for him. He was then seen proudly driving up and down
Belfast’s Castlereagh Road.
Norman’s grandfather encouraged him to purchase and renovate carriages of all sorts but it was
only in the last thirty years that Norman has been able to accumulate a collection of quality
carriages which are for sale in this auction. All his carriages are in good condition and are all
roadworthy.
