SURROUNDED BY
MOUNTAINS
AND NATURE
Surrounded by mountains and full of friendly people, Calgary is the Canada that people
envision – the Canada of your dreams!
Calgary, the largest city in Alberta province, is located right between the Rocky mountains and the Canadian prairies.
It comprises everything that large cities offer and yet keeps a less stressful pace of life - making it an ideal place to
study and live in. Calgary is Canada’s most rapidly-growing city and is known as having a lower cost of living, according
to most students. The stage for the 1988 Winter Olympic Games, the city continues receiving athletes today.
Thus, Calgary is a great place to enjoy sports – especially those related to snow. Banff National Park and Lake Louise,
two of the most majestic natural attractions in all of Canada, are a mere 45 minutes drive away, and are guaranteed
to take anyone’s breath away. Inside the city, students can enjoy the view of the city from Calgary Tower, catch a
Calgary Flames hockey game in Saddledome, and go shopping in Calgary’s popular `17 Avenue’ district.
Among the several events that take place in the city, the Calgary Stampede is by far the largest. Occurring every
July, it celebrates Calgary’s `Old West´ spirit and attracts over a million visitors every year. It features the world’s
largest rodeo, a parade, chuckwagon races, and many shows. In fact, Calgary’s nickname, `Stampede Town’, comes
from this exciting ten-day event.
