Portuguese National Group
1 The Portuguese Group of AIPPI was created on 5 th March 1975 and
currently has 85 members.
2 The Governing Bodies of the Group are the following:

3 The executive body is the Board of Directors, which meets whenever
necessary.
However, everyday matters are normally dealt with by the president and the
secretary general.

4 The Portuguese Group of AIPPI has been actively participating in nearly all
the industrial property initiatives held in Portugal, namely in Seminars and in
the drawing-up of the new Industrial Property Code, which is due to come into
force on 1 st July of this year.
During 2002, the Portuguese Group widely disclosed the activities of AIPPI to
the members of the Government through circulars and publications sent to
Ministers and Secretaries of State, as well as to various national associations:
the Confederation of Portuguese Industry (CIP), the Portuguese Delegation of
the International Chamber of Commerce and APIFARMA - the Portuguese
Association of the Pharmaceutical Industry.
The Committee that drew up the new Industrial Property Code, which consists
of 10 members, includes the following members of the Portuguese Group:

5 The Portuguese Industrial Property Office (I.N.P.I. - Instituto Nacional da
Propriedade Industrial), as well as the Board of Directors (consisting of 3
members), also has an Advisory Board comprising 4 members, 3 of whom
belong to the Portuguese Group:

A Seminar to be held later this year is currently being prepared, which will
analyse in particular the new Industrial Property Code, and this will also be

the main topic for the next postgraduate course in Intellectual Property
coordinated by members of the Portuguese Group, where the main alterations
introduced by the new Code will be discussed and analysed.
