<strong>The</strong> graduate program in physical education, requiring 33 credits, is designed for<br />

post-baccalaureate and in-service physical educators. Training received in this program<br />

comes from two (2) areas: the foundations (6 cr.) and the program studies<br />

area <strong>of</strong> physical education (25 cr.). <strong>The</strong> emphasis in this curriculum is to provide<br />

answers to the questions “what I can learn about teaching and what decisions do<br />

I face as a pr<strong>of</strong>essional educator?” Students will be assigned an advisor with whom<br />

they should consult on a regular basis. In fact, advisor approval is required on certain<br />

course work.<br />

Exercise Physiology/Adult Fitness Option<br />

This graduate program, requiring a minimum <strong>of</strong> 34 credits, is designed to prepare<br />

students for advanced study in exercise physiology and future employment in adult<br />

fitness, corporate fitness and cardiac rehabilitation programs. Special attention is<br />

also given to knowledge and practical skills necessary for students preparing for<br />

American College <strong>of</strong> Sports Medicine certifications.<br />

Admission Requirements<br />

In addition to the graduate application and <strong>of</strong>ficial transcripts applicants must submit<br />

a statement <strong>of</strong> purpose and three letters <strong>of</strong> recommendation. Applications to<br />

the master’s program in Exercise Physiology/Adult Fitness must be completed and<br />

submitted at least six weeks (domestic) or six months (international) before the<br />

beginning <strong>of</strong> the term for which admission is sought in order to allow for adequate<br />

processing time.<br />

This sport science program option has been designed to meet the needs <strong>of</strong> individuals<br />

interested in advanced training to prepare for a career in the sport industry.<br />

Students are prepared to pursue career opportunities in high school, college<br />

and recreational sport, coaching and instruction. Additionally, students pursue<br />

opportunities related to a career in high school, college or pr<strong>of</strong>essional sport administration<br />

or continue a career in teaching and coaching at the secondary level.<br />
