What Does <strong>Organizational</strong> <strong>Advancement</strong> Do?<br />

<strong>Organizational</strong> <strong>Advancement</strong> is one of four functional units that define <strong>Iowa</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>University</strong> Extension<br />

and Outreach administrative structure. <strong>Organizational</strong> advancement establishes organizational<br />

conscience to stay true to mission, vision and values. At the heart of organizational advancement are<br />

initiatives that advance our organization by garnering support, aggregating and sharing our collective<br />

impact, strengthening our brand, communicating our value and executing on our strategic plan. We<br />

work with and rely on Extension and Outreach faculty, staff and council members; and key partners<br />

across the university to develop and support these efforts as fellow advancement ambassadors.<br />

Responsibilities of the organizational advancement team are outlined below.<br />

<strong>Organizational</strong> Marketing and Communications to Citizens and Partners<br />

• Develop and distribute program and organizational news<br />

• Administer organizational social media<br />

• Implement organizational marketing and public relations plans in counties<br />

• Consult on regional/county marketing plan development<br />

• Plan and coordinate Extension and Outreach representation in major events<br />

• Leverage opportunities to represent <strong>Iowa</strong> <strong>State</strong> through the extension and outreach network<br />

• Provide communication support for presidential community visits<br />

• Develop and maintain Web content on main ISU Extension and Outreach pages<br />

• Act as ambassadors for the organization within the university and across the state<br />

• Build awareness of programs of distinction<br />

Staff/Council Communication and Training<br />

• Provide internal communications (staff and extension council advancement updates)<br />

• Develop “advancement ambassadors” (staff and council)<br />

• Support participation in major events (County 100 th Anniversaries, <strong>Iowa</strong> <strong>State</strong> tailgate tours)<br />

• Train staff on <strong>Advancement</strong> related topics and mission/vision/values positioning<br />

Educate Decision-makers/Stakeholders (state, local, federal)<br />

• Identify, draft, and publicize program/regional impacts and public value<br />

• Aggregate, maintain and share impact data at the organizational level<br />

• Support various stakeholder report development and distribution<br />

• Develop educational materials for decision-makers on our impact and value<br />

Development/Philanthropy Support<br />

• Actively support efforts to build the prospect pipeline, partnership development,<br />

communications<br />

• Train staff/councils on their role in supporting development efforts<br />

Vice President for Extension and Outreach Support<br />

• Champion VP initiatives, messages, and themes<br />

• Strategically position organizational impacts, programs of distinction<br />

• Support VP public speaking/media events and partner relations<br />
