• teacher fill out an observation form on you, or just verbal discussion at the end of each day.<br />

• Use the appropriate format of your lesson plans.<br />

• Show the cooperating teacher your lesson plans and have her/him ok them and make suggestions to them.<br />

• Discuss which subjects or units you will be picking up and teaching. This will help give you an idea of<br />

what you need to start preparing for. Ask about the resources that are available to you.<br />

• Talk to the cooperating teacher about differentiation, multiple intelligences, and learning styles. Ask them<br />

for suggestions about classroom management.<br />

• Assessment: talk about developmentally appropriate ways to assess the students. Discuss midterms, weekly<br />

reports, and report cards and what your role will be in each of these.<br />

9. Document communication with every parent/family. This includes phone calls and visits to the school, discipline<br />

situations, and as well as positive interactions that can be used to make positive phone calls.<br />

10. Create a resource file. Collect a variety of materials for use in your own classroom. These may include activities,<br />

handouts, tests, innovative teaching strategies, or any other items or ideas that might be useful for that first year<br />

of teaching. Ask the principal if it is ok to pin a note above the copy machine requesting teachers to place in<br />

your envelope any great worksheets, seat work, etc...that you may take with you when you leave this semester.<br />

11. Ask for help if you need it! You may feel like you need more responsibility or you may feel like you have too<br />

much too soon. Communicate your ideas and thoughts with your university supervisor and cooperating<br />

teacher.<br />
