Would you like to move forward one or more levels in reading this<br />

summer? This is entirely possible as we use the award-winning,<br />

student-tested program “Read Naturally” in this class. Using<br />

stories on CD, each student works individually on his/her own level<br />

to improve reading fluency and accuracy, spelling, writing skills,<br />

and vocabulary. It’s fun and produces noticeable results!<br />

Instructor Martha Ginger is the <strong>Liggett</strong> lower school learning<br />

specialist. She has enjoyed teaching pre-K through 8th-grade<br />

students during her teaching career.<br />

Middle <strong>School</strong> Study Skills (Grades 6, 7, & 8)<br />

Want to remember what you study and be able to do your<br />

homework more efficiently? This class teaches and provides<br />

practice for many critical learning skills such as: active listening,<br />

taking good notes, tricks for memorization, getting organized, test<br />

preparation, and many more!<br />

Middle <strong>School</strong> Math (Grades 7-8)<br />

This class is a comprehensive review and/or introduction to middle<br />

school math topics including: basic operations, fractions, decimals,<br />

percents, simple interest, measurement, ratios and proportions,<br />

plane and solid geometry, as well as pre-algebraic concepts and<br />

operations. Instruction is tailored to the math needs of the class<br />

members. Problem-solving strategies and real-life applications are<br />

also explored with each unit.<br />

Spanish 1 Review<br />

This class is for students that have already taken a year of Spanish<br />

and need to have further study to prepare for second-year Spanish.<br />

Students will review the present tense and be introduced to the<br />

preterit tense. Students will also work to develop oral proficiency<br />

and vocabulary.<br />

Instructor Dr. Lauree Emery has taught Spanish for 27 years; the<br />

past 19 at <strong>Liggett</strong>.<br />

Dates: June 28 - July 16, 9:00 - 10:55 a.m.<br />

Pre-Algebra<br />

This course is designed to introduce the students to algebraic<br />

concepts in order to prepare them for high-school algebra. Major<br />

emphasis is given to understanding the language of algebra. This<br />

course provides a foundation for the transition to upper school<br />

algebra.<br />

Instructor Sarah Dickinson is a <strong>Liggett</strong> upper school math/science<br />

teacher. Last year she enjoyed teaching freshman biology and<br />

algebra 1 at <strong>Liggett</strong>.<br />

Algebra Bridge: Algebra 1 to Algebra 2<br />

This is the perfect course for students who have just finished<br />

algebra I and need additional work with some of its more difficult<br />

concepts. This course will break down the more challenging parts<br />

of algebra I, allowing each student to gain understanding and<br />

confidence.<br />

English Composition (Grades 8-10)<br />

The purpose of this course is to assess the student’s general skill in<br />

scholarly and creative writing and then target areas for individual<br />

improvement. Students will also learn techniques in editing and<br />

constructive criticism by reviewing the work of their peers before<br />

it is submitted for grading. Lectures will showcase writing models<br />

for analysis by the class.<br />

Instructor David Butzu is a 1985 alumnus of <strong>Liggett</strong> and is in his<br />

eleventh year teaching summer school at <strong>Liggett</strong>.<br />
