Continuous Improvements to
METP’s Chinese
Language Training

he European Technical Assistance
Team of METP organised a
capacity building seminar for
the trainers who teach Chinese to the
European METP participants at the
Beijing University of International Business
and Economics (UIBE) from 18
to 20 September 2009. 19 participants
actively took part in this training. Prof.
Wang Fuming, who is responsible for the
Chinese language training under METP,
took part as an observer and contributed
with ideas and interesting comments.
The objective of the training was
to understand the principles of training
management and to be able to set learning
objectives for one’s own language
training”. An evaluation at the end of the
seminar verified that the training was a
success: All participants confirmed that
they had achieved this objective and that
they will apply what they have learnt in
their work. During the three days they
learned how to set objectives using the
SMART criteria and understood why this
is so important for any type of training,
including language training.
The seminar took place at the
famous Longmai Hot Spring in the
northwest of Beijing. This popular location
provided a pleasant framework for
the training. New friends were made and
many teachers expressed their wish to
continue the training.
