Author Jaime Adoff will visit Copley-Fairlawn Middle School
Thursday, May 22, Jaime Adoff,
author of The Song Shoots Out of My
Mouth, Jimi and Me, and Names will
Never Hurt Me, will teach and inspire
Copley-Fairlawn Middle School students
about his love of writing and music.
This major event kicks off with
“A Conversation with Jaime Adoff”
at the Fairlawn Bath Library on
Wednesday evening, May 21, at 6:30
p.m.
The very next morning, Jaime
will greet the students of Copley-
Fairlawn Middle School with a brief
announcement and present two morning
assemblies—one for our 7th and 8th
graders, then another for our 5th and 6th
graders. During the rest of the school
day, he will engage our student writers
in workshops.
A special lunch menu of chili
dogs and fries will be served in honor
of Jaime’s character Aunt Berny who
makes her world famous chili in the
story Jimi and Me.
At the end of the school day,
from 3:15 to 4:00, students and our
community are invited to a “Meet the
Author” reception where his books can
be purchased and signed by the author
himself. (His busy schedule will take
him to the College of Wooster the next
day to speak to the state Power of the
Pen writers; our CFMS writers will be
in this audience!)
Music is Jaime’s passion. He is
an accomplished musician, with two
music degrees. A fascinating free verse
style tells the stories of his intricate and
multi-level characters. A big fan of
Jimi Hendrix, he listened to his music
while writing Jimi and Me. He says,
“I can’t emphasize enough how Jimi’s
music helped to shape this book. Not
just the music itself, but its deeper social
and cultural significance.” His love of
music also inspired his poetry in The
Song Shoots Out of My Mouth which
features incredible artwork by Martin
French.
How lucky we are to have the
support of our wonderful PTA, hosting
the after-school book signing from
3:15 to 4:00, the Copley Teachers
Association, sponsoring the luncheon in
our school library for our CFMS writers,
The Jennings Foundation, Copley-
Fairlawn Schools Foundation Teacher
Grant Program, and the Fairlawn Area
Chamber of Commerce. We could not
have such an exciting event without
their support.
