THE ONES TO WATCH
Cork Midsummer Festival is dedicated to the the commissioning, development and support
of new performance work. The Ones To Watch is an exciting programme of works-inprogress
from all over Ireland. Some are fully fledged productions others offer you the
exciting opportunity to see work in development.
GAITKRASH
PIMPING THE MAIDS
Gaitkrash in collaboration with the
Llanarth Group presents its new workin-progress
based on Jean Genet’s The
Maids. For their new piece of theatre
the team of collaborators is ‘assetstripping’
Genet’s famous play and
‘pimping’ or putting it back together
again in a multi-media montage with
a nuanced agenda. The piece blends
performance, dance, video and sound
art to explore themes such as chaos
and ritual, transgression and frustrated
desire, religious fervour and the agony
of ecstasy, nihilism and the energy of
the pathological. ‘Filth doesn’t love…..
filth’, or does it? An over-18’s piece
for those who like to delve below the
surface
WHAT THE F*CK YOU
GONNA DO ABOUT IT
THEATREclub are ruining lives all
over this city. We’re breaking hearts,
stepping on toes and pissing on dreams
in college lecture halls. Just when
we got to an age where we could
finally start making something of
ourselves, the whole country crashed
down around us. Brown Sugar. Sonic
Youth. Semiotics. Cymbals. Symbols.
Cymbalism. THEATREclub are gonna
talk about being young, about not
being young, about being too old to
care. Dancing. Confetti. Paper Cups.
Drenched. Rained. Weighted. Waited
for what? And about not caring that
you don’t care or that YOU stole a
THE LETTER PROJECT
If you took the time and had the
chance to write to a person or a
thing, who or what would you write
to? Earlier this year, Meantime asked
the public this question, and what
followed became The Letter Project: a
performance inspired by the flood of
letters received.
