The Bowden Conference trains leaders to
work effectively within the association, and is
geared towards LDA officers, directors, council
and committee members and, most importantly,
the newly elected officers of the nine component
associations we have statewide. The meeting this
year is January 21, 2011, in Baton Rouge and is an
excellent opportunity to start the year off right and
network with the new faces from around the state.
In fact, the topic of this year’s meeting is grassroots
advocacy, which is useful to anyone who understands
how important legislative actions are to our
profession. For the past three years, we have averaged
attendance of around 28-30% of the invitations sent
out. We have to have better participation. As we start
off the beginning of the year, the Bowden Conference
is the best way to disseminate current information,
ask questions, learn more about the LDA and review
the upcoming calendar of events.
To make marking your calendar for 2011 easier,
I’m including a list of the 2011 events in this article.
Please consider cutting it out and putting it in your
office. Also, in case you lose this list, all of the dates
are available through the LDA Journal calendar
(quarterly) and is always easily accessible through the

LDA events, plus any additional C.E. events from
Louisiana groups who submit them.
So, there it is. Some of the participation numbers
are pretty pathetic. Please clip and save the events
list and make it your New Year’s resolution to be
involved more this year with the LDA. We need
you, as a member, to support as many of the LDA
functions as possible to generate non-dues revenue
for our association. In turn, you receive great
membership benefits, such as reduced price C.E.
and lobbying services that would be impossible
for an individual dentist to afford. We have many
opportunities where you can show your LDA pride. A
lot of hard work goes in to planning these activities,
including the LDA Staff and all of the volunteer
dentists, hygienists, and auxiliaries that give of their
time, especially component officers, LDA officers and
all that serve on our committees and councils.
I wish each and every one of you and your
