POWERFUL, CAPABLE AND FUNCTIONAL<br />

Designed, engineered and manufactured by <strong>Powell</strong>,<br />

the <strong>PV</strong> <strong>System</strong> 27® switchgear system is a cost effective<br />

solution for 27kV class voltage systems. Design<br />

features include:<br />

• Circuit breaker design incorporates cycloaliphatic<br />

epoxy insulation elements.<br />

• Standard main bus supports are cycloaliphatic<br />

epoxy inserts mounted in high-strength glass<br />

polyester frame. Porcelain inserts available as<br />

an option.<br />

• Current transformers are mounted around<br />

capacitance-graded insulating spouts.<br />

• 125 kV BIL for high system insulation integrity.<br />

• Finish is a corrosion resistant electrostatic<br />

polyester powercoat paint process.<br />

• Circuit breakers roll in and out of the switchgear<br />

compartment assembly at floor level without<br />

the need for additional ramps or tools.<br />

SAFETY BY DESIGN<br />

<strong>Powell</strong> considers safety a critical design element, and<br />

<strong>PV</strong> <strong>System</strong> 27 is no exception. Designed and tested to<br />

meet or exceed all ANSI metal-clad requirements.<br />

• Grounded aluminum safety shutters<br />

automatically cover line and load stabs when<br />

circuit breaker is removed.<br />

• Design included closed door racking mechanism<br />

for improved operator safety.<br />

• Front-connected umbilical cord allows for<br />

testing of circuit breaker with actual control<br />

circuitry with circuit breaker disengaged. No<br />

operator needs to climb into the cell to<br />

acheive connectivity.<br />

SUPERIOR CAPABILITIES<br />

<strong>Powell</strong>’s <strong>PV</strong> <strong>System</strong> 27® switchgear design provides<br />

the user with the flexability to achieve a distribution<br />

system design without compromise. This is not simply<br />

an upgraded version of our 15KV switchgear pushed<br />

to its limits at 27kV, but instead a fully designed<br />

system engineered for application at 27kV.<br />

• 27kV vacuum circuit breakers are available with<br />

25kA or 40kA interrupting capacity and 3 cycle<br />

interrupting time.<br />

• Circuit breakers available with 1200A or 2000A<br />

continuous current ratings.<br />

• All circuit breakers fully rated for K factor =1.<br />

• Circuit breakers have been tested as definite<br />

purpose circuit breakers and a rated for back-toback<br />

capacitor switching at 250 amperes.<br />

• Full 125kV BIL rating on the bussing system.<br />

• Generous instrument compartment allows for<br />

highly complex control systems.<br />

• Power cables can enter from above or below.<br />

• Rear cable compartment provides plenty of<br />

room for ground CTs, cable terminations, and<br />

cable bending.<br />

TESTING<br />

<strong>PV</strong> <strong>System</strong> 27 meets or exceeds all applicable ANSI,<br />

IEEE, NEMA standards. It has been fully tested and test<br />

reports are available upon request.<br />
