POWERFUL, CAPABLE AND FUNCTIONAL
Designed, engineered and manufactured by Powell,
the PV System 27® switchgear system is a cost effective
solution for 27kV class voltage systems. Design
features include:
• Circuit breaker design incorporates cycloaliphatic
epoxy insulation elements.
• Standard main bus supports are cycloaliphatic
epoxy inserts mounted in high-strength glass
polyester frame. Porcelain inserts available as
an option.
• Current transformers are mounted around
capacitance-graded insulating spouts.
• 125 kV BIL for high system insulation integrity.
• Finish is a corrosion resistant electrostatic
polyester powercoat paint process.
• Circuit breakers roll in and out of the switchgear
compartment assembly at floor level without
the need for additional ramps or tools.

SAFETY BY DESIGN
Powell considers safety a critical design element, and
PV System 27 is no exception. Designed and tested to
meet or exceed all ANSI metal-clad requirements.
• Grounded aluminum safety shutters
automatically cover line and load stabs when
circuit breaker is removed.
• Design included closed door racking mechanism
for improved operator safety.
• Front-connected umbilical cord allows for
testing of circuit breaker with actual control
circuitry with circuit breaker disengaged. No
operator needs to climb into the cell to
acheive connectivity.

SUPERIOR CAPABILITIES
Powell’s PV System 27® switchgear design provides
the user with the flexability to achieve a distribution
system design without compromise. This is not simply
an upgraded version of our 15KV switchgear pushed
to its limits at 27kV, but instead a fully designed
system engineered for application at 27kV.
• 27kV vacuum circuit breakers are available with
25kA or 40kA interrupting capacity and 3 cycle
interrupting time.
• Circuit breakers available with 1200A or 2000A
continuous current ratings.
• All circuit breakers fully rated for K factor =1.
• Circuit breakers have been tested as definite
purpose circuit breakers and a rated for back-toback
capacitor switching at 250 amperes.
• Full 125kV BIL rating on the bussing system.
• Generous instrument compartment allows for
highly complex control systems.
• Power cables can enter from above or below.
• Rear cable compartment provides plenty of
room for ground CTs, cable terminations, and
cable bending.
TESTING
PV System 27 meets or exceeds all applicable ANSI,
IEEE, NEMA standards. It has been fully tested and test
reports are available upon request.
