News from the Continents ABERDEEN WSCA Sees Upturn in UK Pat Sibille of Frank’s International and 2004 WSCA Chairman reports that the Well Services sector in the UK came through a very difficult period in 2003/ 2004, with some members experiencing historically low activity levels. Pat is upbeat: “Increased rig contracts and high interest levels in the recent 22nd Licensing Round are indicators that 2005 should be a good year. Moreover, last year the rig utilization was up 13.1% over 2003, and further gains are anticipated this year.” Pat concludes, “With the general consensus that the oil price is unlikely to drop below $30/barrel in the immediate future, there is no reason for activity levels not to increase. This would help the UKCS get back on track to meet the 2010 production target of 3mm boepd and recover the remaining economic reserves within the life of the existing infrastructure.” Also, congratulations to Eddie Sinclair, who was recently appointed European Regional Business Development Manager. We wish you and your team much success. ■ BRUNEI The Sultan of Brunei Visits Frank’s in Kuala Belait Submitted by Les Ellis, Frank’s International’s Operations Manager, Far East Last October, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Muz’izzaddin Waddaulah of Brunei Darussalam visited the PTAS facilities in Kuala Belait. PTAS has been the Frank’s International agent for the past 10 years and has grown to become one of the largest oilfield service providers for Brunei Shell Petroleum and Total Oil in Brunei. Billy Cooper is the Frank’s International Country Manager and Vincent Lim is the Assistant Manager. At present, Frank’s has 92% Bruniean employees. ■ The Sultan and his entourage visit PTAS.
