4171 FIRE INSTRUCTOR I<br />

Instructor <strong>Curriculum</strong><br />

This course supports the latest and accepted National Certification Standards and Procedures including the<br />

instructor as a professional, principles of learning, instructional planning, instructional materials and equipment,<br />

the learning environment, classroom instruction, skills-based learning, testing and evaluation, records, reports,<br />

and scheduling.<br />

A strong focus in this course teaches the understanding of “Mastery Learning” through the interpretation of<br />

the three learning domains: cognitive, psychomotor, and the often misunderstood affective domain. The creative<br />

course activities help the student in processing the informative lecture material making it a comprehensive,<br />

hands-on, approach to education. This dynamic course helps build the confidence of the <strong>Fire</strong> Instructor I<br />

Candidate to a point of being able to make a required educational presentation on the final day. This successful<br />

presentation, along with the successful IFSAC-endorsed certification examination, demonstrates the student<br />

meets the NFPA 1041, 2012 <strong>Fire</strong> Instructor Level I requirements.<br />

Instructor<br />

Students are encouraged to bring a lap-top computer (Microsoft Word and Power Point) and an<br />

USB type memory stick.<br />

Prerequisites: 18 years of age<br />

Hours: 40<br />

Students: Min: 10 Max: 16<br />

Fee: $5, dorms and meals are extra for on-site delivery<br />

4172 FIRE INSTRUCTOR II<br />

The student will be guided through the process of lesson plan development, while at the same time<br />

designing and developing a lesson plan to meet and organizational need. With the aid of 10 specific<br />

classroom activities, the student will be able to create highly effective written tests, performance skill<br />

sheets, course evaluation forms, and learning activities that meet a learning objective. The <strong>Fire</strong> Instructor<br />

II student will grasp the concept of training evolution supervision, along with the supervisory<br />

and administration duties of a Level II Instructor. The course concludes with the presentation of their<br />

project’s executive summary and an IFSAC-endorsed certification exam. This course is an intensive<br />

5-day program which requires many hours of out- of-class work to complete the in-class project. It<br />

covers the latest revisions to NFPA 1041 Standard for Instructor Professional Qualification <strong>Fire</strong> Instructor<br />

II, 2012 edition.<br />

A pre-course assignment and needs analysis will be mailed to the student upon acceptance into the<br />

course and must be completed prior to the start of the course.<br />

Students are encouraged to bring a lap-top computer (Microsoft Word and Power Point) and<br />

an USB type memory stick.<br />
