(6) The company comm<strong>and</strong>er is responsible for the combat<br />

effectiveness of his unit <strong>and</strong> the personal well-being of<br />

the individuals under his comm<strong>and</strong>. Combat effectiveness<br />

is developed by producting sound plans <strong>and</strong> orders, by<br />

achieving adequate supervision of the execution of orders<br />

<strong>and</strong> training, by fostering esprit de corps <strong>and</strong> a high<br />

state of morale, by making effective use of available personnel<br />

<strong>and</strong> supplies, by keeping personnel in good physical<br />

condition, <strong>and</strong> by achieving a high quality of leadership.<br />

Personal well-being of individuals is developed by<br />

fostering good mental attitudes, by considering <strong>and</strong> aiding<br />

their physical comfort, by fostering a high state of<br />

morale, by giving them the opportunity to acquire a sense<br />

of accomplishment, <strong>and</strong> by promoting a sense of security.<br />

The company comm<strong>and</strong>er, by his personal actions <strong>and</strong> by<br />

directing <strong>and</strong> supervising his subordinate leaders, insures<br />

that a continuous <strong>and</strong> effective effort is made to<br />

attain the highest possible st<strong>and</strong>ard in these matters.<br />

b. Executive Officer. The executive officer performs duties assigned<br />

to him by the company comm<strong>and</strong>er. He keeps abreast of<br />

the tactical situation <strong>and</strong> assumes comm<strong>and</strong> of the company in the<br />

absence of the company comm<strong>and</strong>er. He is in charge of the operations<br />

of the comm<strong>and</strong> post <strong>and</strong> ensures communication with elements<br />

of the company, battle group, adjacent companies, <strong>and</strong><br />

supporting units. He notifies appropriate units of changes in his<br />

comm<strong>and</strong> post's location. He controls the movement of administrative<br />

vehicles within the company area <strong>and</strong> supervises the<br />

supply of ammunition to the platoons. He supervises company<br />

administrative support. In garrison, he is normally responsible<br />

for company property other than that issued to platoons.<br />

c. First Sergeant. The first sergeant assists the company comm<strong>and</strong>er<br />

by performing assigned duties. He makes recommendations<br />

to the company comm<strong>and</strong>er on such items as appointments,<br />

reductions, assignments, <strong>and</strong> disciplinary matters as they pertain<br />

to the enlisted members of the company. He assists the executive<br />

officer <strong>and</strong> represents him when he is temporarily absent from the<br />

comm<strong>and</strong> post.<br />

d. Communication Chief. The communication chief supervises<br />

the installation, operation, <strong>and</strong> maintenance of the company communication<br />

system; <strong>and</strong> assists in procuring signal supplies. He<br />

advises the company comm<strong>and</strong>er on matters pertaining to communication<br />

security, <strong>and</strong> he disseminates appropriate information<br />
