29. General<br />

Section 11. COMBAT SUPPLY, RIFLE COMPANY,<br />

INFANTRY BATTLE GROUP<br />

a. The company comm<strong>and</strong>er has comm<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> supervisory responsibility<br />

for the supply functions of his company <strong>and</strong> for the<br />

proper use of all supplies. The executive officer normally acts as<br />

company supply officer. It is essential, for economical as well as<br />

tactical reasons, that authorized allowances of supplies <strong>and</strong> equipment<br />

be on h<strong>and</strong>, in serviceable condition, properly cared for, <strong>and</strong><br />

that no excesses accumulate. The company comm<strong>and</strong>er is assisted<br />

by all officers <strong>and</strong> noncommissioned officers who have supervisory<br />

responsibility for supplies <strong>and</strong> equipment, <strong>and</strong> by those personnel<br />

who have specific supply functions.<br />

b. The procedures discussed in this section are appropriate<br />

for most combat situations. They may have to be modified under<br />

special conditions.<br />

c. The discussion of accompanying supplies in paragraph 32<br />

applies equally to the infantry battle group rifle company in an<br />

airl<strong>and</strong>ed operation <strong>and</strong> to the airborne battle group rifle company<br />

in a parachute or airl<strong>and</strong>ed operation.<br />

d. For a discussion of aerial resupply <strong>and</strong> classes of supply,<br />

see FM's 7-21, 7-40, <strong>and</strong> 57-21.<br />

30. <strong>Company</strong> Distribution Point (CDP) (<strong>Company</strong> Trains)<br />

a. The company distributing point (company trains) is the local<br />

point for logistical operations. The company comm<strong>and</strong>er selects<br />

a location for the distributing point within or immediately in<br />

rear of his company area. It should facilitate supplying the forward<br />

platoons, be near a good road or trail to the rear, have adequate<br />

space, be easily identifiable, provide concealment from<br />

ground <strong>and</strong> aerial observation, <strong>and</strong> afford cover from flat trajectory<br />

fires.<br />

b. The supply sergeant distributes ammunition from this point.<br />

Other installations or activities at the distributing point (trains)<br />

may include the kitchen (when under company control); mess<br />

area, or hot food distributing point; distributing point for fuels<br />

<strong>and</strong> lubricants, clothing, <strong>and</strong> equipment; drop zone or aerial resupply<br />

point; <strong>and</strong> weapons maintenance area.<br />

31. Food <strong>and</strong> Water<br />

a. The company comm<strong>and</strong>er submits an informal request daily<br />

to the battle group supply <strong>and</strong> maintenance platoon headquarters<br />
