ASEAN AT HOME
As part of the Uniquely
Singapore experience, the
ASEAN contingent was
hosted by several local crew
members in their homes
during the nine-day stopover.
The ASEAN home-stay
programme encouraged the
crew to spend quality time
together, while getting to
know more about Singapore
and its myriad of cultures and
cuisine.
The word ‘unique’ best sums up my
Singapore experience. This is my second time
in Singapore and I have learnt a lot from my
home-stay with Desmond. I take public
transport, and in doing so, had the
opportunity to observe firsthand how
Singaporeans live and work. Chinatown was
my favourite place. The food, atmosphere,
lights and sounds reminded me of
Chinatown back in the Philippines. As we
embark on the next race, I am thankful for
the wonderful memories of Singapore and
the many friendships I have forged here.
Valerio B. Ramos Jr,
ASEAN crew member, The Philippines
Serious crew bonding sessions take place in the evenings in the homes of the local crew as
well as out at Singapore’s best known hangouts
Living in a HDB flat with Yolyn Sim and
her family is the best part of my stay in
Singapore. Together with the other Clipper
crew members, I was fortunate to explore
Singapore in an atypical way, similar to
reality show, The Amazing Race. We had
to search for clues in different parts of
Singapore which brought us to locations
like Raffles Place, Little India and
Chinatown. It was exceptional!
Erma Rheindrayani Siswowaluyo,
ASEAN crew member, Indonesia
Singapore, we love you!
The Singapore stopover was absolutely
fantastic! It’s nice to have had such a warm
welcome after being out at sea for so long.
Singapore is one of the best stopovers so far
and the hospitality has been wonderful. It’s
a pity to have to leave the warmth behind
and head out into the cold in Qingdao,
but we are ready for the adventure!
