Hi-Noble
Swashbucklers
Captain Dave Norton
Khedive’s youngest unit, the Swashbucklers
finished off the year in grand form with our
Christmas Party and Installation of Officers.
With most of our Mariners in full pirate regalia, we
were quite a sight! Illustrious Sir Don Meyer and
Oriental Guide RayRay Teller, both Mariners as
well, performed the duties of Marshall and Installing
Officer, respectively. Ill. Sir Don did a spectacular job
reading the charge, a special one he had prepared for
the occasion. Most of the Divan spent the evening with
us, as well, and everyone had a grand time. Mariner
Grant Smith, aka “Domingo the Red” led some of us
in a unique version of a familiar song known as, “The
Twelve Days of Sailing”.
Moving on to 2012, we are excited to have a
fundraiser on this year’s calendar! Make plans to
attend the “Khedive Swashbucklers 1st Ever Pirate
Pig-Pickin” on Sunday October 7, at Khedive Shrine
Center. Weather permitting, this will be an outdoor
event, and we’re not talking about just another
barbecue! We’ll have a whole pig (maybe two!) and
all the fixin’s for the very reasonable price of just
$15.00 per person. We’ll be selling tickets soon, get
yours early! I might mention that we are going to try
vice president
Greetings Nobles, Khedive Golf
Club would like to commend
Illustrious Donald E. Meyer
for the fantastic job he did last year
as Potentate and thank him and his
Divan for the support and recognition
they rendered to our Golf Club.
We would also like to congratulate
Khedive’s 2012 Potentate, Illustrious
Joseph T. Register and his Divan and
wish them success in the upcoming
year. We all look forward to another
fantastic year of Shriner Success and
Fraternal Unity. “Isn’t it great to be
a Shriner” rings strong with Khedive
Golf Club.
Our golf club members and
guests enjoyed last season immensely.
As a new season quickly approaches
we are ready to start anew under the
gifted leadership of our President,
Noble Johnnie Chandler and
Secretary-Treasurer Noble Rod
Rushford. Our Chaplain is Noble T.
Dudley Myers.
Last year our Club enjoyed
playing over 30 golf outings at
fourteen different area golf courses
at a discount rate. We were privileged
to be able to raise and donate $5,000
to the Transportation Unit Fund.
Springtime golf is usually somewhat
rusty with many off-center hits but
we always strive to improve all year
long. In doing so we have fun and
fulfillment knowing that the monies
we raise will help young children and
families in their time of need. We
are blessed that we can swing a club
and walk down the fairways. Our golf
handicaps vary widely from low to
high and score is usually secondary to
and support any
unit that might
need help with
a fund raiser. So if your unit
needs some help let us know.
We have a lot of talent and
experienced in our unit and
we love to share.
We hope to start working on our ship in the near
future. Noble Jody Dudley donated a trailer that will
become the platform to build upon. Past Cap’n Roscoe
has communicated with several other Shrine pirate
units and has come up with some good plans to work
with.
Meanwhile, we’ll be lookin’ to hijack a yacht or a
dinghy for the St. Patricks Day Parade, so keep an eye
out fer us!
Khedive Swashbucklers meet on the 3rd Wednesday
of the month, currently at Norton Sandblasting
Equipment 1006 Executive Blvd., Chesapeake,
(hopefully, we’ll have a room in the Temple before too
long!)
Yours in the Faith, Mariner Dave Norton
Captain, Swashbucklers 2012
fun and fellowship.
Yours in the Faith,
