Sustainable Product Design<br />
n U.S. sales of EPEAT-certified desktops, laptops,<br />
and displays grew nearly 10 percent in 2009,<br />
to a total of 48.5 million units.<br />
n Outside of the U.S., there were nearly 8,500<br />
EPEAT registrations of products in 2009.<br />
eCycling<br />
n In 2009, <strong>CEA</strong> estimated that the electronics<br />
recycling efforts of manufacturers and<br />
retailers in the U.S. diverted more than 200<br />
million pounds of electronics from landfills.<br />
n The CE industry has established more<br />
than 5,000 locations in the U.S. to collect<br />
consumer electronics for recycling.<br />
Sustainable Facilities<br />
n Nine of the 10 largest CE companies by global<br />
revenue have been reporting to the Carbon<br />
Disclosure Project (CDP) since 2007 and are<br />
improving their reports by increasing the amount<br />
and quality of data reported each year.<br />
n Nine of the 10 largest CE companies by global<br />
revenue have established corporate-wide<br />
commitments to ISO 14001 certification and<br />
report on the number and location of ISO<br />
certified facilities.<br />
Social Contributions<br />
n In 2009, the 10 largest CE companies by<br />
global revenue donated $882 million, in<br />
both cash and products, to support activities<br />
that enhance local environments, social<br />
well-being, and/or economic development.<br />
Energy Efficiency<br />
n Currently, more than 27,000 CE product<br />
models meet ENERGY STAR specifications set<br />
by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency<br />
(EPA) and Department of Energy (DoE).<br />
<strong>Sustainability</strong> <strong>Report</strong>ing<br />
n All 10 of the largest CE companies by global<br />
revenue issue public sustainability reports using<br />
guidance from the Global <strong>Report</strong>ing Initiative.<br />
n In 2009, the U.S. EPA estimated that<br />
consumers purchased 1.4 billion units of<br />
ENERGY STAR qualified electronics since<br />
the program began.<br />
