Adventures
along the coast
all of blekinge, with its varied natural landscapes, is a
paradise for adventures in the open air. A mix of bays and
stretches of open beaches form a necklace along this long
coastline stretching from Valjeviken in the west to Kristianopel
in the east. But even though Blekinge is dominated
by its coast, there is also a huge, varied rural landscape
to explore. In this multi-faceted landscape you can cycle
over wide fields, walk through dense forest, paddle in the
lakes or fish in the sea. Many people say that the best thing
about Blekinge is that so many of our greatest experiences
are free, or virtually free. So you can treat yourself to much
more!
Motorists will quickly find our main thoroughfare – the
E22 road – which passes Blekinge’s four coastal towns.
However, if you choose one of the minor roads, you will
often be richly rewarded – a multitude of different experiences
await.
Walkers can follow the ‘Blekingeleden’ trail, which is around
250 km long and stretches from the Sölvesborg rest area
in the west to Kristianopel in the east. In the northern part
of Ronneby municipality, you can walk along the Blekinge
Vildmarksled wildlife trail, a 70-km route through wonderful
countryside. There are many active experiences to be found
along the coastal road, such as seal safaris, sailing schools,
boat trips, cycle packages and much more.

Below shady trees, through narrow
passages and into lakes, the river
Ronnebyån winds from lake Rottnen
in the north to Ronneby in the south.
Both young and old can enjoy this 70-
km stretch of river.

The Laxaleden trail
A 30-km hiking trail that runs alongside
the river Mörrumsån from Hovmansbygd
to Elleholm. During your
hike, which you may want to divide up
into stages, you can learn about the
history that shaped life along the river
in times past.
Sternö and Boön
Here you will find the county’s largest
barrows from the Bronze Age, a
historic hiking trail, guided tours, and
more. And what better way to enjoy
a sunny day than lazing on your own
rock with a book and a picnic basket!
Långasjönäs and
Nytorpet
An attractive woodland with an exercise
track and hiking trails with firepits.
Buy a fishing licence and try your luck
at angling. Or take a dip in the silkysmooth
lake waters. There is also a
wood-fired sauna at Nytorpet.
Tjärö
One of Blekinge’s most beautiful
islands. A nature reserve and Astrid
Lindgren’s Bullerby in miniature. Sleep
well to the sigh of the waves and
enjoy delicacies of the sea. For active
visitors, there are opportunities for
canoeing, walking and pentathlon.
Taking a dip from the sauna jetty is
also cool and refreshing in this archipelago
idyll.

Take the ferry from Nogersund and
feel the wind in your hair and the salt
spray in your face. The views on Hanö

Halen is the largest lake in Blekinge
and is an excellent starting point for
canoe, bike and walking trips in and
around the exciting, wilderness-like
Halen-Raslången-Immeln lake system.
Quarrying – Black gold
Mining of diabase, or “black gold”,
started around 1870. The stone industry
was a huge success compared
to the gold rush in the Klondike and it
helped to stop emigration to America.
Stenriket is home to over 100 quarries,
some of which continue mining today.

Kastellet island fort
Kastellet sits on an island in the middle
of the approach to Karlshamn guest
harbour. The entire island is actually
a defence installation from the period
during the 17th century when disputes
with Denmark were common. Today,
Kastellet is an exciting, easy-to-reach
destination for both young and old,
offering a GPS treasure hunt, guided
tours and art exhibitions. In recent
years, Kastellet served as the setting
for the very popular summer theatre
organised by Teatersmedjan.
Castle ruins and park

Sölvesborg castle ruins, dating back
to the 13th century, sit proudly on an
artificial mound with views overlooking
the Sölvesborgsviken bay. Down below
is a beautiful renaissance garden
with Castle rows and Glassblower’s

Hällevik Fishing Museum
In the fishing village of Hällevik you can
learn about fishing in the olden days,
tie knots and maybe pick up a few
words of the local dialect.

Jämshög folklore

Children’s Blekinge
wherever you are in blekinge, adventure awaits just
around the corner! At Boda Borg and Kreativum, the
young and old can indulge their desire for play and
discovery. A visit to Barnens Gård is a fun full-day
adventure for all the family. There’s the Water Park with
its many attractions and the Leisure Park, which is great
fun. Barnens Gård is also home to a lot of animals that
children can pet and help to look after. Or why not visit
“Blekinge’s little Skansen”, Wämöparken, and take time
to enjoy a fresh waffle at the coffee shop?
Just outside Sölvesborg lies the Listerlandet peninsula,
with welcoming villages and small, picturesque fishing
ports. Spend a few nights at the camp site in Hällevik
and enjoy this magnificent coastal strip. Have you ever
seen seals in the wild? Travel out to Abrahamsäng near
Kristianopel or Utklippan and look out for them. Or take a
break from the sea and visit Ronneby Brunnsbad waterpark,
with its extra-long water slides, a diving lagoon and
a children’s pool with water-spraying play figures.
