COMPANY<br />

OVERVIEW<br />

<strong>Metro</strong> <strong>Tasmania</strong> Pty Ltd (<strong>Metro</strong>) is a state-owned<br />

company established in February 1998.<br />

It is <strong>Tasmania</strong>’s largest passenger<br />

transport service provider,<br />

operating a fleet of 220 buses in<br />

and around Hobart, Launceston<br />

and Burnie.<br />

<strong>Metro</strong> services are delivered<br />

under service contracts with the<br />

State Government’s Transport<br />

Commission that sits within the<br />

Department of Infrastructure,<br />

Energy and Resources.<br />

Operating under Corporations<br />

Law, an independent Board<br />

of six Directors provides the<br />

organisation with strategic<br />

direction and governance.<br />

<strong>Metro</strong>’s shareholder ministers,<br />

representing the people of<br />

<strong>Tasmania</strong>, are Minister for<br />

Sustainable Transport Hon<br />

Nick McKim and Treasurer<br />

Hon Lara Giddings.<br />

<strong>Metro</strong>’s corporate plan –<br />

developed in consultation<br />

with the company’s employees<br />

– has set the vision, business,<br />

purpose, goals and values to<br />

guide the company.<br />
