Service Initiatives<br />
Throughout the year <strong>Metro</strong><br />
partnered with Local and State<br />
Government and their agencies,<br />
major event organisers including<br />
sporting associations and the<br />
MAIB to provide convenient,<br />
inexpensive and safe transport<br />
to major events.<br />
This benefits not only the<br />
patrons using the service<br />
but also significantly reduces<br />
traffic and parking hassles for<br />
other event patrons and local<br />
residents and benefits the<br />
environment.<br />
The following service initiatives<br />
were implemented in <strong>2011</strong>–12:<br />
Statewide<br />
<strong>Metro</strong> Nightrider services were<br />
provided in Hobart, Launceston<br />
and Burnie on New Year’s Eve.<br />
Sponsorship for these services<br />
was provided by the MAIB.<br />
Hobart<br />
<strong>Metro</strong> and Cricket <strong>Tasmania</strong>,<br />
in partnership with the four<br />
Hobart metropolitan councils,<br />
provided <strong>Metro</strong> Boundary<br />
Rider services to and from<br />
Blundstone Arena – Bellerive.<br />
The Boundary Rider services<br />
operated during December,<br />
January and February for the<br />

<strong>Metro</strong> secured State<br />
Government funding for the<br />
provision of additional services<br />
to the Channel region for a<br />
12-month trial.<br />

Launceston<br />
<strong>Metro</strong> was awarded the contract<br />
to operate the Tiger Bus service<br />
which is a 15 minute weekday<br />
peak period shuttle from<br />
Inveresk to Launceston CBD and<br />
two interpeak 60 minute city<br />
loops. This service is funded by<br />
the Launceston City Council.<br />
Overcrowding<br />
An additional Hobart to<br />
Woodbridge via Kingston<br />
and Hobart College service<br />
commenced operation in<br />
April <strong>2012</strong> to address<br />
overcrowding from Hobart<br />
College in the afternoon peak.<br />
