Wanna know a secret? I haven’t brought a single morsel of food to an
Ultimate Tournament all season. There’s no need to, I just steal it from the
rest of my teammates. They all bring plenty, and good stuff too. Honestly,
I don’t think I’ve ever seen an Ultimate team that eats as much as Bad
Larry. It’s not all that shocking, if you actually take a moment to look at
the people on the team. That guy, #4, could probably fill out a C-cup…I’m
not kidding. Not to mention that thick and stout girl handling all the time.
I bet she can wolf it down. I don’t steal from everybody though. We have
this one guy who’s so skinny that he’s practically 2-dimensional. I feel
bad stealing from him. Plus his food is usually boring like granola bars
and crap. I wouldn’t steal from #7 either. He’s a complete head case and
would probably kill me if he caught me. Luckily he got cut at Nationals
last year, so I don’t have to worry about it.
Here’s the kicker. The team even has a silly cheer that goes “EAT,” then
“MORE” (it’s kinda hard to write it out). I love that cheer. Every time we
cheer it, I think to myself “Sure, fools, I’ll go ahead and ‘Eat More’… of
your food. Suckers.” And that’s the end of my story.
Barrio

Bar · ri · o /bahr-ee-oh/ n 1. A Spanish word meaning our community,
territory or neighborhood; a barrio is generally considered to be a cohesive
place rich in tradition and populated by a tight knit minority. 2. The name
of a co-ed Ultimate team originally formed in Tucson’s Barrio Anita; it is a
community of players proud to be representing the minority desert section
at the UPA’s 2007 National Championships. 3. Barrio connotes spirit, love
of the game and never, ever giving up.
Barrio runs a tireless offense honed under the relentless gaze of the
scorching Sonoran sun; rains down one righteous huck after another like
a caped luchador flying across the ring; plays lay-out defense hardened
on parched fields where a blade of grass is the stuff of legend; and
dances with the dead to the immemorial serenades of a mariachi’s violin
to never forget who came before.
