LEARNING BEYOND THE CLASSROOM
Learning at EBC encompasses a wide and varied enrichment timetable that enables
creative and enjoyable interactive learning throughout the year. Our students can take
advantage of the many free social, academic and sporting clubs that take place before
college, lunch times and every evening.
Students have a first hand experience of many
aspects of the vast cultural resources in and
around London visiting museums, galleries and
places of historical interest. Students gain direct
experience of working with outside agencies
through art workshops, theatre companies,
debating societies, writers and poets and medical
laboratory practice. There are opportunities each
year to travel abroad and take advantage or our
international links with schools; last year students
travelled to China, India, Spain and France on
college journeys. We are also linked with a school
in Istanbul and promote collaborative work with
students in both art and geography.
The performing arts department play an exciting
role in the college from large whole college
productions to small dramatic and musical events,
bringing together students, staff and parents.
The development of the Duke of Edinburgh Award
Scheme in the college has enabled many students
of all abilities to have an invaluable experience of
working, independently of adults but as a team, to
gain skills and knowledge otherwise not available
to city children.
outward bound centres around the country which
take place each year. There are numerous benefits:
social, personal and educational including the
experience of living away from home and
participating in activities as a team. The courses
offer pupils a great sense of achievement building
confidence and awareness of personal strengths.
To end the college year we have an Enrichment
Week where both students and staff can enjoy
exploring fun ways to extend their learning
together. The normal timetable is collapsed and
students have an opportunity to experience
different enrichment activities testing them both
mentally and physically.
Forming part of our enrichment programme are the
very popular residential multi-activity journeys to
“Enrichment activities are excellent, extending the students’ learning and their personal,
social and cultural development.”
