THE SIXTH FORM Most of the Ernest Bevin students continue their education at the college, because they know the staff, they have enjoyed the facilities which the college has to offer and students feel that they can continue to excel in familiar surroundings. We offer a wide variety of courses from A levels to Foundation studies. Sixth Form Centre Our purpose built Sixth Form accommodation was opened in September 2007. The centre includes large study rooms, a specialist media suite, ICT rooms, a self-study area, vending machines, lockers and kitchen facilities. The accommodation provides a centre for video conferencing and distance learning techniques. Admissions to Year 12 We welcome external students to join the large number of students from Year 11 who chose to join our thriving Sixth Form. We particularly encourage applications from girls to join the co-educational environment. We run a wide range of academic and vocational courses and enrichment activities suitable for Foundation learning, BTEC and A Level and Extended Project. We believe that we prepare our students in the best way possible for their next steps in life. This year we are in our third year of partnership with Tooting & Mitcham FC. Their football academy is based here and 45 academy players complete their academic qualifications while fulfilling their training needs, coaching courses and fixtures at the club. This year we will launch the AASE programme which will enable elite athletes in sporting disciplines to continue their studies whilst receiving the best support possible to achieve their individual sporting goals. SIXTH FORMERS EXPERIENCE OF OUR COLLEGE “As a current Year 13 student – and a student since year 7, I can honestly say that Ernest Bevin College has provided me great facilities, amazing extra-curricular opportunities and outstanding pastoral support. I found the jump from GCSEs to A Levels challenging – but the constant guidance and support of my tutor and Head of Sixth Form has made that jump a successful one! The college has changed me in a very positive way, providing me with the life skills to become an independent learner, remain focused and on track to achieve my goals. I am very lucky to be a part of what is a vibrant and very successful Sixth Form in a safe and caring environment.” Qasim Qasim is studying for 3 'A' levels “I attended Ernest Bevin College from Year 7 to 11 and the amazing experience I had, coupled with high academic achievement made the college's Sixth Form a definite choice – and I was not disappointed! The teachers in the Sixth Form are attentive, caring and very efficient ensuring a high success rate for their students; the students themselves are hardworking and eager to learn creating an ideal learning environment for academic study. I enjoyed participating in a range of extra-curricular activities including the Duke of Edinburgh Award, sports clubs with skilled coaches and the opportunity to experience West End theatre productions. In addition, you receive excellent academic tutoring and careers guidance to keep you firmly on track and focused.” Jordan Jordan has gained a place at Manchester University studying Psychology “Sixth-Form or college? The choice facing me as I looked to move into 16 – 19 education was just as daunting as any before it. Looking back, I can proudly say that I made the right choice! The standard of teaching, together with caring and enthusiastic staff forms a very productive environment and I am very grateful for the opportunities I have been afforded. As a national team Volleyball athlete, Ernest Bevin has always supported me in my sporting aspirations. I have also had the honour of representing the college on other occasions such as appearing on BBC televised debates on subjects such as climate change. Being a student of the college has taught me invaluable life lessons and helped begin my successful transition into the adult world.” Jordan Jordan is studying 3 'A' levels “My experience is one to remember. I did not feel I was simply a member of the college, but played a role of being a part of a team. Being a shy person, I surprisingly gained a strong bond with my teachers as they were all so welcoming in wanting to help and support me in my ideas of educational development. What I loved most about the college was that so many opportunities were available beyond academic A-levels. I took part in Outward Bound, Asdan, Extended Project and mentoring as extra curricular activities to help me in my future. Overall, it is an environment in which I can be comfortable and not to be afraid to ask questions or ask for help from staff as well as other students.
