requirements
One of the many types of special-purpose
wire for the electrical industry is wire
made from electrical resistance alloys:
austenitic nickel-(iron-)chromium alloys
and ferritic iron-chromium-aluminium
alloys. Metal heating conductors are
used wherever it is desired to convert
electricity into heat. They are used in
industrial plants for melting metals and
glass, for heat treatment of metals and
for firing ceramics. In the home, too,
electric heating appliances with metal
resistance elements are indispensable.
They are used for room air heating in
night storage heaters, under-floor
heating systems, radiators and radiant
heaters, as well as in ovens, hotplates,
toasters, warming plates, water heaters,
immersion coils and coffee machines;
in washing machines, tumble dryers
and dishwashers, in hair dryers and
irons.
Examples of the fruits of our research
and development work are the alloys
Aluchrom Y, Aluchrom PS 1 and Nicrofer
6025 HT - alloy 602 CA. Aluchrom Y
is used in Ceran hotplates and other
appliances in the temperature range
1150 - 1330 °C. Aluchrom PS 1, with
the highest upper application temperature
in air of 1400 °C, is used in hightemperature
furnaces in the electronics,
ceramics and glass industries. Nicrofer
6025 HT - alloy 602 CA is recommended
for use when high heat resistance is
additionally required.
Another, equally interesting, application
is the use of our special-purpose wire as
inner parts in lamps and light bulbs. In
general-purpose bulbs, halogen lamps,
bulbs for automotive uses, neon lamps,
bilux bulbs and gas-discharge lamps, it
is the lead-in and support wires that are
made of nickel-base alloys – VDM
Nickel, Nickelmangan and Nicorros.
They enable good electrical conductivity,
high strength and safe operation in
spite of the high temperature. In addition,
the good expansion behaviour of
Pernifer 42 and Pernifer 50 make them
the materials of choice for lead-in and
lead-through pins. Pernifer 42 is also
used for the core of "Dumet" wire.
