Victory - Larry Walter of Sausalito, CA enters a 1948, 22' Sportsman Chris Craft with a 158hp Chris Craft 283, V8 engine. Prime Time - Jim Chapman of Gilroy, CA enters a 1950, 18’ Chris Craft Riviera with the original 6 cylinder 95 hp engine. The boat hull number R-18-296 was first registered to the Andrew Sisters, one of the most popular acts in the post war era. The boat was named Prime Time and has recently been restored. Moonstruck - Stanley and Ardith Ramsdell of Sacramento, CA enter a 1950, 18' Chris Craft Riviera with a Chris Craft 120HP 6 cylinder engine. The Chris Craft Corporation built the Riviera between 1949 and 1954 in three lengths, 16, 18, and 20 feet at the Cadillac, Michigan plant. During that time, 1,211 18 foot boats were produced and 345 had the KLC engine. Riviera 18-243 left the Cadillac plant on March 21, 1950 and was sent to the Inland Marine Boat Co. in Williams Bay, Wisconsin. It was found languishing in a barn by Jim Staib and sold to the Ramsdell’s who made an empty trailer sightseeing trip across country to eastern Michigan to bring her home in 1999. Once there, it was clear that all new wood was needed to bring her back to life. The restoration by owner started with tool purchases and a garage workshop established. Work started and stopped many times until Tahoe Yacht Club Foundation announced blonde deck runabouts as the Marque class in 2009. The restoration included frame repairs, a new 5200 bottom and topside wood. With the help of Tony Brown, the top deck was installed and the wood work finished. Back at the home workshop, the running gear, new wiring, upholstery, chromed hardware and a rebuilt KLC Chris Craft engine was installed. She was named “MOONSTRUCK” for her maiden evening cruise on Lake Tahoe, she was awarded second place trophies at both 2009 Lake Tahoe boat shows. 20 South Tahoe Wooden Boat Classic 2011
Viking - Steve and Cheryl Caplan of Los Gatos , CA enter a 1952, 28' SE Cruiser Chris Craft with 2 Chevrolet 350 300 HP engines named Viking. Delivered to a Los Angeles auto dealer in 1952, this 27’Chris Craft semi-enclosed cruiser was moored at Newport Harbor for roughly 40 years. Her primary purpose was to carry her multiple owners to and from Catalina Island. Derelict and in need of a new purpose, she was purchased in 1992 and was completely restored to her original beauty, named Viking, and brought to Lake Tahoe. Her Tahoe debut was at the 1994 Concours where she won 2 nd Place and the Richard Clark Perpetual Award for Grace, Style and Excellence. She won a 2 nd Place again in 1995 at the Concours and 3 rd place at the 2003 Concours. In 2001 Viking was honored with the People’s Choice award at the ACBS Tahoe Keys Show. Bleach Blond - Bill and Ronda Little of Hollister, CA enter a 1954, 20' Chris Craft Riviera with a Mercruiser- 230HP 8 cylinder engine. Bleach Blond, hull number 769, was the 259th Rivera built of a total production of 266 Rivera's which were built between 1950-1954. This boat was built in the Cadillac, Michigan plant and was completed on March 13, 1954 and was then shipped to Chris Craft Motor Boat Sales in New York City. The original owner purchased this runabout in New York City for $3940.00 and it was then shipped to Lake Winnipesauke, New Hampshire. The boat was discovered in a barn in New Hampshire after twelve years in storage and was purchased sight unseen by Steve Burton who towed it to California. He spent 5 1/2 years performing a complete restoration before it was again launched in March 2002. Steve Burton was awarded a trophy for best owner restoration at the ACBS Tahoe Keys show in 2002. Bleach Blond was purchased by Bill and Rhonda Little in April 2007. Bill spent the winter of 2009 refinishing the boat again. It was featured on the Fall, 2009 edition of the Brass Bell magazine. Blonde Ambition - Don Parsons of Stockton, California enters a 1955 Chris Craft Capri built at the Cadillac plant and delivered to Welsh’s Boat Yard in Wrightsville, PA in November of 1954. Little is known about her first owner who sold the boat to Tommy Ware of Austin, Texas. Ware replaced the bottom and the interior cabin and used the boat for some 25 years. I purchased the boat from Mr. Ware in April of 2007 and brought it to California in an eventful trip involving a tornado, a snowstorm and a flash flood – all in the space of a week!
