MISS JAMIE – Jim and Gail Robello of Kelseyville, CA enter a 1961, 19' 0'
Continental Chris Craft with a Chris Craft 283 185 HP engine named Miss
Jamie. Chris Craft shipped HN CUA-19-0169C to Oklahoma on June 26, 1961
where it was purchased by Reverend Harold E Hasse. In 1963, the
Reverend needed cash to move out west, so he sold the boat to brothers Earl & JB
Chambers. The brothers faithfully used it each Memorial Day, July 4 th , and Labor
Day. In 1971, JB bought out Earl and moved to Tulsa where he
continued to use the boat on holiday weekends. In 1983, JB, now in his
seventies sold the boat to James Burgess and Chris Langston. They
reconditioned the boat and continued to use it on a limited basis until they moved
to Salt Lake City. November, 2003 - Having had a 1961 Chris Craft Continental in
the family for 20 years, Jim Robello was on the lookout for another when he spotted this one advertised on the ACBS website.
Jim immediately forwarded the ad to his son Todd who replied right back that we “had to get it”. For three generations this was
the boat the Robello family grew up in, learned to drive, and learned to water ski from. Miss Jamie is named after our
grand daughter – Jamie Robello (the fourth generation).
Tamsen - Tom and Renee O'Callaghan of Auburn, CA enter a
1962, 21' Triple/Utility that was built by the Philbrick Boat works of
Oakland Ca. in 1962. She was delivered as a semi
finished hull. Philbrick sold boats in various levels of
completion. A semi finished hull would have been completed, ready
for fairing but without any hardware or mechanical
equipment installed. Several boats were sold this way. Tamsen was
returned to the boat works several times to have items added and
installed. After the owner finished the boat, they would bring the
boat back to the yard for Don Philbrick’s inspection. If the boat was
up to Mr. Philbricks standards they would be rewarded with
Philbrick’s script name plates. One for the dash and one each on the
sides near the transom. In 2009 Tamsen received a freshing up at Northwest Classic Boats in Auburn Ca. Tamsen is named after
the wife of George Donner of the Sierra Donner Party. We are the third family to enjoy this wonderful boat, but what is it, a triple
or a utility?
Back in Time - Dan and Barbara Foster of San Ramon, CA
enter a 1965, 19' Philbrick Utility with a Crusader 200HP 8 cyl
engine. Dan wanted a wooden boat and was looking for one to refinish.
Mr. Don Philbrick told Dan he knew of a man in Concord
California who bought a skeleton 19’ Philbrick utility boat and
never continued to build the boat and wanted to sell the boat. Dan
bought the skeleton and took it to Don Philbrick’s shop in
Oakland to start working on the boat. It took Dan 3 years to build
the boat. Dan’s father the famous race boat driver from the 1940’s
“Danny Foster from Detroit” found Dan a Crusader Marine 350 V8
engine and brought it out here for Dan to install in the boat. Dan did
all the work himself with the supervision of Don Philbrick and to
Don’s specifications. In 1990. Dan launched the boat it in Lake Tahoe for her maiden first run. The name of the boat is Back In
Time. This name relates to the boat and to the relationship between Dan and his wife Barbara. They were high school sweet hearts
that went their own ways after high school graduation and 27 years later met up again to rekindle their relationship. 3 years later
they were married. So both the boat and the marriage are from “Back In Time”.
