Genevieve - Aaron Robinson of Paradise CA enters a 1957 Century
Resorter 16 with a Chrysler M47. Genevieve" is the first wooden boat
owned by Geni and Aaron Robinson from Paradise California. They have
been restoring her over the last two years. This boat had been in regular use
for many years by a collector in northern California, but always hiding under
a thick layer of fiberglass. Geni and Aaron carefully removed the fiberglass
from the rub-rail up and replaced all of the decks and covering boards with
new mahogany planks milled from a single tree. While removing the
fiberglass they found several layers of different colored paints, mostly
pastels, which lead the Robinsons to believe that this boat had been
fiberglassed many years ago, most likely in the mid 1960's. A large portion
of this restoration was time spent bringing the Chrysler Marine Engine back
to life, a project that Aaron and his Dad completed together, a project that
required many trips to the machine shop. Geni spent several evenings just
restoring the steering wheel, which was salvaged out a junkyard and required
many hours of sanding and epoxy work. While 'Genevieve' is the Robinson's first foray into wooden boating they strived to
complete her with the highest level of craftsmanship and attention to detail. There is a lot of heartache in her wooden decks, and
not a little inside her crankcase.
Miss Pickle - Bill and Jill Straub of Incline Village, NV
enter a 1958, 17' Utility Philbrick. The boat was built in Oakland,
CA, in 1958 and was outfitted by the owner with a 389
Pontiac V-8 engine. Miss Pickle underwent a major restoration
this past winter which included new mahogany planking on the
topsides and transom. In the past years the boat has won numerous
awards at the Concours and ACBS Tahoe Keys
shows. Having spent some 40 + summers at Lake Tahoe, the
boat currently spends summers at the Tahoe City Marina where
the family enjoys her all summer long.
