AUTOMATIC RECEIPT OF<br />

HIGH HOLIDAY TICKETS<br />

Your account must be current to receive your High Holiday<br />

tickets by mail in advance of the holiday.<br />

1. Included in this mailing are tickets for your children, ages<br />

5 to 24. Tickets are not required for children under the age<br />

of 5.<br />

2. Members in good standing may purchase tickets for children<br />

25 and over <strong>at</strong> $50 each, for other rel<strong>at</strong>ives <strong>at</strong> $125<br />

each, and for non-family guests <strong>at</strong> $360 each.<br />

Please call the <strong>HERJC</strong> office immedi<strong>at</strong>ely with your ticket<br />

orders.<br />

RECIPROCAL GUEST TICKETS<br />

Family members who belong to other United Synagogue<br />

for Conserv<strong>at</strong>ive Judaism congreg<strong>at</strong>ions may request courtesy<br />

tickets <strong>at</strong> our synagogue by having their home congreg<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

mail or fax a High Holiday Day Courtesy Request on<br />

Synagogue letterhead to the <strong>HERJC</strong> office. Our fax number is<br />

516 599-2851.<br />

CHILDREN’S SERVICES<br />

Our Religious School students are invited to Services in the<br />

School Building. There are also special classrooms for chil -<br />

dren ages 2–4 which are supervised by Nursery School teachers.<br />

Children are admitted to regular Services only if accompanied<br />

by their parents.<br />

THE <strong>HERJC</strong> NEILAH<br />

TRADITION<br />

The last Service of Yom Kippur is<br />

called Neila, the “Service of the Clos -<br />

ing of the G<strong>at</strong>es.” As twilight fell on<br />

Biblical Jerusalem, the g<strong>at</strong>es of the<br />

Temple were closed. Neila signals the<br />

end of the period of repentance and<br />

we are reminded to enter the G<strong>at</strong>es of<br />

Repentance before it is too l<strong>at</strong>e. Con -<br />

gre gants are invited to come up on<br />

the Bima while the Ark is open, for a<br />

short, personal prayer. The service<br />

ends with one mighty blast of the<br />

Shofar. Bring your Shofar and join us.<br />

HAVE SHOFAR, WILL TRAVEL<br />

Anyone who is ill and cannot <strong>at</strong>tend High Holy Day Services<br />

is encouraged to call the office, 599-2634, so th<strong>at</strong> we can<br />

arrange for one of our Shofar Blowers to come to your home<br />

after Services.<br />

SPECIAL SEATING REQUESTS<br />

Anyone requiring special se<strong>at</strong>ing or parking because of<br />

physical limit<strong>at</strong>ions should notify the office <strong>at</strong> 599-2634<br />

immedi<strong>at</strong>ely.<br />

SYNAGOGUE DECORUM<br />

Smoking is not permitted anywhere on <strong>HERJC</strong> property.<br />

Please do not bring electronic devices of any kind into<br />

Services.<br />

USHERING<br />

Our High Holiday Services are a time of both spiritual<br />

awareness and daunting logistical challenges. Our ushers<br />

have the important role of helping to cre<strong>at</strong>e a welcoming<br />

<strong>at</strong>mosphere while insuring the security and decorum of<br />

services for nearly 2,000 people and we tre<strong>at</strong> them with the<br />

utmost respect. If you would like to aid in this important<br />

task, please call 599-2634.<br />

SECURITY<br />

The safety of our Congreg<strong>at</strong>ion is our first concern. Please<br />

be sure to keep your ticket with you <strong>at</strong> all times. Your ticket<br />

will be checked any time you enter the building.<br />

If you do not have your ticket with you,<br />

you will need to show photo ID to be admitted;<br />

we will m<strong>at</strong>ch your identific<strong>at</strong>ion against<br />

our membership and ticket lists. We also ask<br />

th<strong>at</strong> you keep your tickets with you to reenter<br />

the building when bringing children to<br />

Children’s Services.<br />

PARKING—<br />

BE GOOD NEIGHBORS<br />

We close the <strong>HERJC</strong> parking lot during the<br />

High Holy Days to maintain the dignity of<br />

our worship. If you park on the side streets,<br />

please be consider<strong>at</strong>e and do not disturb our<br />

neighbors. We thank you in advance for your<br />

cooper<strong>at</strong>ion.<br />
