Join us as we kick off our Year of Torah with a<br />

special Scholar in Residence Weekend with our<br />

special guest: Rabbi Eliezer Diamond of the <strong>Jewish</strong><br />

Theological Seminary. In three exciting sessions,<br />

Rabbi Diamond will teach us about the n<strong>at</strong>ure of<br />

Torah and its meaning and relevance for our lives<br />

today.<br />

Rabbi Diamond will speak on:<br />

Friday night, September 16 <strong>at</strong> 8 pm during a<br />

special Oneg Shabb<strong>at</strong> <strong>at</strong> the conclusion of our<br />

7 pm Friday night service<br />

S<strong>at</strong>urday morning, September 17 <strong>at</strong> about 11:15 am<br />

during Shabb<strong>at</strong> morning services<br />

S<strong>at</strong>urday afternoon, September 17 <strong>at</strong> approxim<strong>at</strong>ely<br />

1 pm following Shabb<strong>at</strong> kiddush<br />

Rabbi Eliezer Diamond is an Associ<strong>at</strong>e Professor of<br />

Talmud and Rabbinics <strong>at</strong> The <strong>Jewish</strong> Theological<br />

Rabbi Eliezer<br />

Diamond<br />

Seminary where he teaches courses in rabbinic<br />

liter<strong>at</strong>ure and introductory, intermedi<strong>at</strong>e, and<br />

advanced Talmud studies.<br />

Dr. Diamond is the author of many popular<br />

and scholarly articles, including a chapter on<br />

the rabbinic period in the Schocken Guide to<br />

<strong>Jewish</strong> Books and articles in the Reader’s Guide<br />

to Judaism. He is the author of Holy Men<br />

and Hunger Artists: Fasting and Asceticism in<br />

Rabbinic Culture, published in 2003 by Oxford<br />

University Press. He is currently working on a<br />

book on how modern Jews can find meaning and relevance<br />

in traditional prayer.<br />

Dr. Diamond is widely hailed as a master teacher.<br />

In addition to JTS, he has taught <strong>at</strong> Stern College, the<br />

Reconstructionist Rabbinical College, the 92nd Street Y,<br />

and several Ramah camps. Dr. Diamond was ordained<br />

<strong>at</strong> the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary of<br />

Yeshiva University and received his doctor<strong>at</strong>e in<br />

Talmud from JTS.<br />
