DAVID WOOLFE
Whew, that was one hot summer! I hope you and your family
managed to enjoy a fun, healthy summer while not getting too overheated.
Before the next Hakol, I’m sure we will all find ourselves
bemoaning the cold weather and longing for next summer. But
before we get too far ahead of ourselves . . . we are all excited to begin
another year at our award-winning HERJC Religious School, welcoming
students and families who are new to our school and synagogue—and
students who know their way around like old pros!
Our Building Blocks program continues to be an incredible success.
Morah Robin, along with Morah Uli and Morah Nancy, look forward to another
wonderful year with our youngest students. Our Alef class can look forward to a great
year with Morah Gila. Morah Rebecca is already elbow-deep in her planning for a successful
year with her students. Morah Nancy is conjuring new games to make learning
fun and exciting for her students.
Morah Hely and I are looking forward to another fantastic year with our Akiva
students.
Mr. Plotkin is honing his fantastic story-telling skills for his Vav students and so he
can share with our students the weekly parashot and wonder of the Torah narrative.
Speaking of the Torah, this year will be a singular one for our students and families
at HERJC. This year is the “Year of Torah” at HERJC. The process of having a new Torah
written for our synagogue will involve many learning opportunities for our students
and their families. The Torah scribe will be with our students at various times during
the year. In addition, the school will have a number of events and lessons to reinforce
the power and lessons of the Torah.
It is an incredible honor to be part of a congregation as it receives a new Torah.
I urge all of you to actively participate in this exciting synagogue experience as much
as possible—both in the school and synagogue itself. This is our Torah—in every sense.
Let’s embrace it together!
Finally, I am looking forward to a fantastic 8th grade program this year. I will be
teaching a brilliant curriculum that is structured around the Shoah and Israel. I believe
that this will be the year we establish a very successful post-Bar/Bat Mitzvah educational
program that we will continue to build upon.
From strength to strength. Shanah tovah to all. May we all be inscribed in the Book
of Life for a year of health, happiness and community.
I’m looking forward to enthusiastically shaloming all of you once again soon!
