Areas in which research is done Dr. Rothenberg has a dual research focus: service-learning in graduate social work education and trauma recovery. Both of these areas seem to complement and integrate her many years of social work practice in community settings with traumatized populations, specifically runaway and homeless youth and burn survivors, with her interest in experiential education. The common thread is a focus on resiliency both in social work students’ professional identity development and an integration of a strengths-based focus via experiential learning processes such as servicelearning. Thus, through primarily qualitative methodology, Dr. Rothenberg has explored both social work professional identity development through service-learning and personal value development through recovery from trauma. A new area of focus is the use of expressive arts in social work education and with use of clients for empowerment and social action. F. Supervision of student research Doctoral Committees of students who have graduated (since 1998). Independent Study, Doctoral Research Directed two doctoral students in independent research courses: Both students’ work have culminated in submissions to peer-reviewed journals. Independent Study, MSW Program Dr. Rothenberg has supervised fiften MSW students in three-credit, independent study coursework. Additionally, she supervised 22 burn camp students in a one-credit research project for elective credit. G. Editorship or editorial review boards: Dr. Rothenberg has been a reviewer for Research in Social Work Practice and Journal of Community Service in Higher Education.
