36 PBRF 2010 Annual Report Ways to Help Advancing New Discoveries through Science and Philanthropy Gifts made to Pennington Biomedical Research Foundation provide vital funding for nutrition-based research that aims to prevent premature death from chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, obesity, and dementia. ANNUAL FUND FOR EXCELLENCE Pennington Biomedical Research Center was founded as a result of an extraordinary philanthropic gift from C. B. “Doc” and Irene W. Pennington. Broad-based philanthropic support from the community is critical to provide unrestricted funding for the Center’s growth and research initiatives. Gifts to the Annual Fund for Excellence provide seed funding for emerging research and help to recruit and sustain the Center’s renowned scientists. Winstead President/CEO For every $1 of unrestricted support, PBRC can acquire more than $3 in additional research grants. Therefore, every gift is important. TRIBUTE GIVING A gift can be made in memory of a friend or family member, in honor of someone special, or in recognition of a special occasion. The amount of your gift remains confidential. An acknowledgement is sent to the person or persons you designate. SOARING TO NEW HEIGHTS Soaring to New Heights is a fundraising event to support the work of PBRC. The event, held in conjunction with the Pennington Hot Air Balloon Championship, features great cuisine, hot air balloon glows, fireworks and music. Funds are raised through event sponsorships and ticket sales. NAMING OPPORTUNITIES PBRF provides giving opportunities that offer donors the ability to have their name, or the name of someone they would like to honor, associated with a specific laboratory, equipment, room, or building. ENDOWED SUPPORT Endowed Chairs and Professorships provide critical annual support in perpetuity, which allows the Pennington Biomedical Research Center to recruit and maintain a cadre of the world’s finest research scientists. Philanthropic gifts are leveraged through an attractive matching program with the Louisiana Board of Regents’ Eminent Scholars Program. THE LEGACY SOCIETY Bequests, charitable remainder trusts and estate gifts are some examples of gift planning. Contact us for opportunities that best benefit you as well as PBRF.
